Now we have this very good band from the USA, VESPERS NINE, and their brand self-titled new album “Vespers Nine”, which is their second.The music is a blend of melodic rock that will remind some listeners of the ’80s, some kind of mix between Saigon Kick, Nelson, 7th Heaven and Eagles, plus a rock&pop spirit. However, lyrically the band is really mature.What I liked from Vespers Nine at first listen it’s their musicality. There’s a long tracklist here – 16 cuts – but all around the 3-minute mark, lively and joyful.There’s rocking numbers, interspersed with sweet melodic rock songs in the Nelson vein, and of course, ballads.Another aspect that makes Vespers Nine so ‘listeneable’ is the fact they have 3 lead vocalists. While the crystal clear pipes of lead singer John Simon are present on most songs, some of them are performed by guitarist James Martinez, and others by female bass player Gricel Dosal.All that variation benefits the flow of the record, and as whole, the 3 perform create stupendous layers of harmony vocals.While “Vespers Nine” is quite popular in their native Florida circuit and already played / toured with well known names such as Jack Russell’s Great White, Kid Rock, and guess who – yes, Nelson, they are not well know in melodic rock circles.These are quite talented musicians capable to write very solid song with interesting lyrics.
