Silent were a Brazilian arena rock band from RIo de Janeiro - RJ, Brazil.Silent were formed in 1991 by Gustavo Andriewiski (guitar and lead vocals), Alexandre França (guitar), Marcos Ferraz (bass) and L.A. Tilly (drums). This line up recorded the single "Sonhar (Pra Sempre)" which was released as part of a soundtrack for TV Globo's soap opera "O Amor Está No Ar".In 1993, Marcos quit the band and Federico Martin joined the band as the new bass player and second lead singer. This line up would be together until 1994 when Alexandre would also quit the band.In 1995, the remaining trio recorded a small demo and unsuccessfully tried to find a replacement for Alexandre.In the end of 1996, Alexandre would come back to the band for recording of the band's first (and only one until today) album. Also joined the band this time was keyboard player Leandro Baliza. The self-financing album was called "The Bright Side" and included two singles that were included and two different soap operas soundtracks. "I Found Faith" was included in the "Vira-lata" soundtrack and "Bitter Tear" was included in "O Amor Está No Ar" soundtrack. After the recordings the band called it quits.In 2001, drummer Tilly released the album and it became a surprising small hit in the AOR community, gaining good reviews from specialty mags. They were awarded 83 of 100 by Japan's Burrn! magazine and was cited and one the bests albums of the genre by some reviewers that year.In 2002 the band reunited (minus the keyboard player) for a few promoting shows for the album release. After that, Gustavo moved away to Miami and the band was on a forced break. That same year, bass player and second lead singer Federico left the band.After trying to reformed the band with a new lead singer (the most well-known candidate was Gus Monsanto, now lead singer for French progressive/symphonic metal act, Adagio), Alexandre and Tilly called it quits officially in 2005.Gustavo and Tilly are together again playing in a hard rock act called 'Repplica'. Former member includes bass player André Bighinzolli (Genoma, Metalmorphose). Current bass player is Márcio Chicralla (Celso Blues Boy Band).Alexandre died, along with his entire family, in a natural disaster in Itaipava (Rio de Janeiro) on January 11, 2011. His replacement wasn't announced.Marcos Ferraz was a member of Brazil's pop group Os Anjos and now plays with infamous act 'Os Imperdoáveis'.Federico Martin became a web designer and no longer is involved with the band.With a new formation defined in 2014, Gustavo Andriewiski on guitar and vocals, Alex Cavalcanti on guitar, Douglas Boiago on the bass, and Luiz “Tilly” Alexandre on the drums, they start recording their second album. In 2015, with their new album “Land Of Lightning” ready, videos from the beginning of their careers salvaged, and a new single/music video ready to be released, the band signed their first contract with the recording label Planet Music Brazil. The single "Around The Sun" was released in October 2015, followed by the Album "Land Of Lightning", released on November. Soon after that, the video clip for "Around The Sun" is released on Vevo and in their Silent Vevo Youtube channel.

Brazilian melodic rockers SILENT released their highly praised debut in 2001 - a pure AOR / Melodic Rock record - in a time when the genre was pretty much considered 'underground'. After some singles in between, Silent presented their new album 'Land Of Lightning' some time ago, now re-released as "Land Of Lightning [Deluxe Edition]" including new, extra tracks, rounding up 15 songs of lovely melodies in the vein of Foreigner, Hugo, Toto, Harem Scarem and 2000's Journey.After their debut album Silent played at several festivals and own gigs, but suffered various line-up changes until they disbanded in 2005.But around 2010, always with founding members Gustavo Andriewiski (vocals, guitar) and Luiz "Tilly" Alexandre (drums) carrying the flag, Silent returned into the scene when AOR / Melodic Rock started to become popular again.With a refreshed line-up, Silent begin to compose new material and last year they selected the best, polished songs, and entered into the studio."Land Of Lightning" continues with Silent's love for classy AOR melodies, with smooth guitars, lots of keys, big harmony vocals and strong hooklines.Straight from the Harem Scarem book of how to write a catchy tune, "Around the Sun" opens the new album with midtempo verses and a catchy chorus."Gone" sounds modern in a present Scandi style, same with "Hello Hello" delivering more rocking riffs, then "Bye Bye Superman" has a mid-pace AOR atmosphere bringing to mind the last Danger Danger."Numb" returns to pumping Melodic Rock, "One More Time" adds heavier guitars with a melodic hard edge, then the AOR of "Where Are You Going Now" balance things with a slightly Strangeways feel.Title track "Land of Lightning" delivers a little twist as while it comes melodic and the skeleton is very classic, the sound and arrangements are quite modern. There's also one of the stronger guitar solos on the record."Home" rocks hard in the early Nineties way, then Silent finishes the new album with another uptempo tune - I was expecting a ballad, but no complaints here, because "Dancing in the Morning" is a solid, meaty hard rocker with sharp riffs and cool backing vocals.Silent may have modernized their sound a little since their origins, but all their music is absolutely inspired by the Melodic Rock / AOR '80s glory days.Andriewiski's vocals feel smoother and more mature, while the band's overall approach is solid and tight, influenced by both European and American styles.
