Dark Sky is a German heavy metal band from Rottweil in Baden-Württemberg. Dark Sky has already released five albums, the band played at major festivals and toured with bands like Thunder and Magnum.Dark Sky was founded in 1982 by Mike Stelzig, Frank Breuninger, Richy Richard, Champs Niebling and Mike Tomlinson. A fully produced album was not released in 1984 because of the bankruptcy of the record company (Bregenzer Records). In 1988, Dark Sky won the title of Eternity at the nationwide contest "The Springboard" in Wenden (Sauerland). End of 1989, several members left the band. After various music changes, the band returns in the late 1990s and signed a contract with the Malaysian record company LIFE Records. Then the album Believe It was produced and released in 1998 with success in Southeast Asia. In 2000, Believe It was also released in Europe via the German label Goodlife Records.Shortly before the recordings for the second album Edge of Time, Steffen Doll joined the band as the new guitarist. Also on Goodlife Records Edge of Time 2002 was released in Europe and Japan. In August 2004, Dark Sky signed a new record deal with the German label AORHeaven, where the third album Living & Dying 2005 was released in Europe and Japan. The studio recordings for the album were completed under the direction of Markus Teske (Red Circuit) at the Bazement Studio. After many concerts u. a. with the Scorpions and a Germany tour with Thunder appeared in June 2008, the fourth album Empty Faces, which was again recorded in the Bazement Studio, the label AORHeaven. Dark Sky shows off in a harder guise on Empty Faces, but does not give up catchy choruses.In the following years, further concerts at festivals in Germany and abroad as well as a European tour with Magnum took place. In the fall of 2011, Dark Sky began producing song material for their fifth album, Initium. The recordings took place again in the Bazement Studio, directed by Markus Teske. The result was a modern and progressive concept album, which nevertheless remained band typical melodic. The recordings included guest musicians Hannes and Ande Braun (both Kissin 'Dynamite) and Klaus Dirks (Mob Rules). After completion of the production, the band signed in the summer of 2012, a new record deal with the German label Pure Steel Records, where Initium was released in the fall of 2012.In autumn 2013, bassist Winny Zurek ended his music career for health and personal reasons and got out of Dark Sky. With Lutz Aicher, a longtime, former band member took over the bass at performances.

Due personal circumstances DARK SKY were not able to tour with this album, but they played a few shows here and there. One of it was as a support in their hometown for the Swedish Superstars EUROPE. This show was filmed and recorded for the first live CD and DVD. The DVD only contains the show, while the CDs is extended with 6 great new studio tracks. One of it is a cover version of the Pia Zadora classic „When the Rain Begins To Fall“.Founded as a school band in Rottweil/Germany in the early 80ies, DARK SKY was on the international map in the mid 90ies for the first time with the debut album „Believe It“, which had big success in Asia, especially in Malaysia. 2002 was the release of the second album „Edge Of Time“, which brought them on the map in their home country as well. It was followed by „Living & Dying“ and „Empty Faces“, which showed the band from their harder side without losing their trademark melodies.In 2012 they released „Initium“, a concept album, also produced (like the previous two) from producer Markus Teske (SYMPHONY X, VANDEN PLAS).Due personal circumstances DARK SKY were not able to tour with this album, but they played a few shows here and there.
