Númenor has risen from the ashes of band Esgaroth. The only remaining member from the embryonic period was Despot (Marko Miranovic).Despot established Númenor in 2009 and marked the path with the new members, but, anyhow some of the older material, from the previous periods left, and later was published on various EPs.The lyrics are based on fantasy literature: J.J.R. When you have to deal with Power Metal, you must remember that this term covers a vast range of musical works. What I mean: it’s not easy to describe all the ideas that this genre can conceive. Then, the better is to hear the music and throw aside the labels, and in this way, you’ll have the pleasure to hear “Chronicles from the Realms Beyond”, the third album from Serbian band NÚMENOR.They use a different approach, because we could describe the band in a first impression, it would be as a Melodic Epic Power Metal, but soon you’ll hear some extreme Metal parts arise on some songs, as well as some harsh vocals. The final vision is of a band that mixes Black/Death Metal elements with Epic Power Metal, and it’s truly fine, because this fusion creates something really aggressive, but filled with excellent melodies and keyboards’ parts, along with great riffs, thundering bass guitar and drums, and the mix between clean and nasty vocals. It’s really different, amazing and good!The sound quality of the album is good. It’s clear in a way that allows the fans to understand what they are playing, and what they are up to. But it’s a bit rawer than the necessary in some parts, giving the feeling that there is a “smoke curtain”. Their work deserves a more clean orientation that keeps the aggressiveness of their extreme elements. It’s not perfect, but good. Using this mix, maybe some bands could lose the way, but NÚMENOR is a veteran with more than 10 years of experience on their shoulders (counting the name that they used a different name) and three albums (and a lot of EPs, Singles and Split albums). So be prepared, because “Chronicles from the Realms Beyond” will conquer more fans, even you.On the fast and melodic “Heart of Steel” (very good melodic keyboards parts and clean vocals) and on “Carvenstone” (that shows a very good work from guitars), you’ll think that they are an Epic/Power Metal band, but the sinuous and aggressive “Witching Hour” (filled with aggressive vocals and great melodies on guitars) shows that they have a Death/Black Metal side as well. On the climatic and filled with tender parts “Beyond the Doors of the Night” (what a fine guitar solo!) and the epic melodies of “Moria” (what a lovely vocal duets between female voices with grim and clean male voices) both sides of their musical work are on equilibrium. On “Over the Mountains Cold”, the both sides of their music are balanced, with some nasty guitars and heavy rhythmic work. “Realms Beyond” is an epic intro that prepares the fan for “The Last of the Dragonlords”, another song with an orientation to their epic side (when the extreme elements are just on the nasty aggressive vocals). “Valhalla” is an old classic from BLIND GUARDIAN, that here is presented in an aggressive version, but with the band showing their own personality on the song (even some extreme grunts can be heard on it). These are their best moments.The band is really talented, and can be pointed as a great revelation in the scene. Just listen to “Chronicles from the Realms Beyond”, open your hearts and ears, and maybe a new page in Metal history will be revealed.
