Bio:

Band from Roden, Drenthe in Netherlands formed in 1985.The band's first and unfortunately only record was titled "No Time for Masquerade" and was released in 1990 on North Star Records.Massive Heavy Metal is celebrated with relish, with a charismatic singer , sawing guitars, hammering drums, just as it should be.The people responsible for this stroke of genius are Gerd Hento (v), Thomas Duiveman, Jannes Bloemert (both g), Henk van Mierlo (b) and Rieks Vogelzang (d). Like their spiritual successors from Powervice, they tread Iron Maiden paths, but not quite as obviously. The powerful, dense sound is sure to please all those who are into productions by Max Norman (Malice, Armored Saint, Lizzy Borden). Each of the songs comes across as a powerful composition. The opener "Cry for Mankind" immediately gives off a pleasant Iron Maiden feeling (structural similarities to "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner" are hard to miss). "Hell of a Fight" is a typical number two, a kind of catchy hymn to sing along to (and of course nod your head). Note the simply magical guitar work; Against this background it is inexplicable to me how even 1 single human child can get into Metallica shit. The following seven-minute mid-tempo banger "Play with Edges" sets the bar almost unattainable for the competition. It has a dramatic structure, which Aristotle would certainly have enjoyed, and impressively captures the quintessence of skilfully presented Heavy Metal - very big cinema or an opera in short format."Breaking Rules" ties in with "Play With Edges", while "Hiding" hides a special treasure, the highlight of the B-side, so to speak: a fast track with great melodies and great guitar runs. "Nightmare" plays in the same league, actually not a Maiden-like piece at all, but it still reaches in the instrumental middle section in the spirit of "The Trooper" and "Caught Somewhere in Time".

Album:

In 1990 the band Elise released its first and only CD, a CD that did not get the attention it should receive. Now, almost 25 years later, heavy / hard rock fans get the chance to purchase this CD as yet.Elise frontVocalist Gerd Hento, guitarists Jannes Bloemert and Thomas Duiveman, bassist Henk van Mierlo and drummer Rieks Vogelzang form the band on this CD. The opening song Cry For Mankind immediately shows what the band has in store, with tight and fast drum beats the tempo is immediately increased while singer Hento heralds the end of the world. There is only one song shorter than four minutes on the CD, in each song there is a lot of space for the guitar parts. No Time For Masquerade, the title track, starts with a slow guitar riff, and after the vocals have started, the tempo stays a bit slower. With Lights the tempo is turned up a lot again and the boards are sawn from thick wood, a pumping guitar and background vocals from the rest of the band complete this song. Witchfinder is again a slower song, after which the thread is picked up again in Nightmare. Dark lyrics and heavy guitar parts characterize the CD.Two bonus songs have been added to this re-release, songs that were not on the original CD, but were still on the shelf. Come Back and Careless Rat fit this CD perfectly. Come Back fits well between the other songs, again a great guitar solo after a quiet break in the song. The singing part is supported by a second voice and a backing chorus. Careless Rat starts with a bass intro after which the accelerator is pressed hard again. The bonus DVD contains a live show recorded in Veeningen. The show shows that Elise can handle live well. Guitarist Duiveman has left the band, and during the live performances his place is filled by Dead Head guitarist Robbie Woning. The DVD contains 15 tracks, all 13 tracks on the CD, except Breaking Rules. The three new titles are songs from the first demo recordings, and are titled You And Me, Never Say Never and Fighters. The last two songs were written by former band member Wim Pas, and he also plays on these songs during this show. Three guitarists on stage further move the hall. After Nightmare the concert closes with the appropriate Over.
