Savage Oath is a US heavy metal band comprised of Brendan Radigan (vocals), Phil Ross (bass), Leeland Campana (Guitars), and Austin Wheeler (drums). From the very beginning, the approach to writing was one that celebrated boldness and ambition while still being in service to each song. The result of this is a pulse-pounding, fist pumping, triumphant sound that tramples genre-convention in favor of catchy riffs, catchier choruses, and stratospheric guitar solos that remain in the brain long after the track has ended. Tracks that cut through the noise of modern life, empowering listeners to confront the madness of existence.

There are articles that are, strictly speaking, unnecessary. This piece is one of them. There is probably no Epic Metal Blog reader who hasn’t listened to Savage Oath‘s long-awaited debut album up and down over the last few days. The reactions so far have been euphoric – and quite rightly so.Divine Battle delivers what you would expect from an “underground supergroup” – no, even much more: thanks to the brilliant Adam Burke, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful covers of recent years. This work of art already expresses everything that Savage Oath stand for – and the atmosphere they create with their songs.The stand-out feature is of course the superb vocals of Brendan, who currently also shines in Pagan Altar and Sumerlands. Powerful, combative and soulful (just listen to the title track!), he sings his heart out here. Wonderful riffs and leads are provided by Leeland, who I’ve had the pleasure of seeing on stage three times with Visigoth in the last few days: An excellent artist who is one of the best metal guitarists of his generation. He is joined on this recording by Carlos Llanas (formerly Eternal Champion). But the rhythm section, consisting of bassist Phil Ross (formerly Manilla Road, currently Sentry) and Ryan Mower (now Austin Wheeler drums for the band), is also completely convincing in the almost 44 minutes. Not to be forgotten is Paris Thibault (Concilium), whose voice can be heard in the choir on “Blood for the King“ and “Divine Battle“.And the songs themselves? Absolutely magnificent: “Blood for the King“ or the band anthem “Savage Oath“ alone justify the purchase of this album. These are epic heavy metal hymns that immediately propel a band to the Olympus, as every genre fan gets goosebumps and wants to smash their home to pieces with joy. It doesn’t get any better than this!In short: Divine Battle is a highlight of the year that raises the bar enormously. After Alatar and Writhen Hilt, there is now a third new band in our genre that awakens feelings that once made us adore bands like Manilla Road or Manowar. Thanks, guys, for this masterpiece! This one is really monumental.
