Steel RATH is a heavy metal band formed by Alex Livás, Brazil in 2019, which already has its first album titled only as Steel RATH, with 10 extremely crafted and original tracks.Second album Prayers Of War (2023).

Album:

Quality, high energy NWOTHM effort from Brazil. "Battlecry" kicks off the ten song collection, an apt calling card for what's to follow: a mix of Iron Maiden and Teutonic influences, good stuff, all.Thumping bass line of "Soulchasers" (video available online) is augmented by high pitched wail. By contrast, atypical "Warriors Of The Sea" is a lively stab at pirate metal, with gruff intonations. Both provide a diversion from Steel Rath's usual modus operandi. The first 80 seconds, or so, of "Imperium" are voiceless (and a bit of a technical showcase), before settling into a hammer headbanger.Although the tempo is a step down, "Cursed" rides a sing-along chorus seemingly destined for bigger audiences. It has a similar dynamic change to Maiden's "Sign Of The Cross", although the acoustic guitar finished this one. Gritty rocker "You Die, Stay Dead" sports a great title. The fastest riffs are saved for speed metal "Galactic Hell", punctuated by a few near-falsetto vocal highs! The disc closes with "Rise", utilizing gang vocals, come the chorus.Despite the wealth of information available on the web, talented bands, unable or unwilling to participate in the online hype sham (especially plenty of old school, analog embracing South American acts) who (sadly) remain undiscovered. Consider this a small flashlight, shining in the darkness.

Album:

Prayers Of War is the second full-length studio album from São Paulo, Brazil-based metal clan Steel Rath. I’ve spun this a few times and can’t get past the fact that the vocals are so high in the mix, but if you can manage to overlook such a discrepancy then you are in for a treat.This is your standard old school metal revival, although rather than stodgy and stuffy, the production here is quite crisp considering it’s an independent release. Vocally, guitarist Bruno Coimbra is a tad out if tune and his style varies from gravelled croons to higher strains. Coimbra is joined here by Alex Livás (guitar), André Ranhel (bass) and Jiúlio D. César (drums).Prayers Of War is a sturdy enough soundtrack for a metal by numbers opus that is comfortable in its zone. The album feels a bit long at 50-minutes, but of the nine tracks offered a handful do stick, especially the trudging ‘Land Of Thieves’, the weighty ‘Hammer Grinder’ and my favourite brace, ‘Crimson Star’ and ‘Fire Eagle’. The former exhibits soul and subtlety, while the latter streaks along with great effect.
