Sweden’s Bürner look like the walking definition of grizzled Hard Rockers from their publicity shots, and their down and dirty brand of Rock ‘N’ Roll is pure Motörhead, but with a vocal style that’s equally Bon Scott in tone as it is Lemmy. With that kind of influence worn so blatantly loud and proud, you know exactly what you’re going to get and Bürner don’t pull the punches with this sophomore record.It’s short and sweet as a slap in the face, with the ten tracks breezing past in just over half an hour, which means even the most attention deprived of youngsters might actually stand a chance of getting through the album. Björn Ohlson is clearly the backbone of the group, and he delivers an impressive performance in the two key roles of vocalist and solitary axeman, with a lovely fat combo of the Les Paul through a Marshall stack that never, ever gets old. I also can’t fault the rhythm section with him either, as these guys could park a mini on a sixpence so precision tight is their delivery, whilst still sounding free, loose and easy. Opening single ‘Beer Before Glory’ is a little obvious, but it’s going to work well live, although to be fair the rest of the songs stand up better than this festival warmer. Is it original? No, but then there’s a huge void in the marketplace since Lemmy passed, and even when tracks like ‘Warrior’ move from ‘influence’ to borderline plagiarism it really doesn’t matter because they do it so well and the sense of humour conjoined with the no nonsense and tight as fuck delivery means I really am left wanting more. Lemmy would be proud.
