Bio:

Rexoria, a female-fronted melodic metal band with folk influences from Sweden, was formed in 2016. The quartet spread around the word fast and toured for two weeks in eight countries with Bloodbound, Thobbe Englund (former Sabaton guitarist) & Polish metal band Crystal Viper and played 35 shows in total within the first year after its founding with bands such as Hardcore Superstar, Raubtier, Electric Boys, Slade, Backyard Babies, ToxicRose, Billion Dollar Babies, Entombed A.D and Smash Into Pieces. In November 2017, they supported Battle Beast and Dynazty in Sweden.Vocalist Frida Ohlin was nominated in the Swedish competition "Årets rockröst 2016" (The Rock Voice 2016). The band’s EPs “Moments Of Insanity” (2016) and “The World Unknown” (2017) are currently available on Spotify. “Queen Of Light” is their first full-length album. The CD was recorded in the first half of October 2017 at Trampolin Recordings in Gothenburg, Sweden with producer and mixing engineer Henrik Pettersson and mastered by Jeffro Lackscheide in the USA.

Album:

Rexoria's lead singer Frida Ohlin walks onto the big stage with her group's first full length album and brings a joyous new twist to melodic metal --- a female folk voice with strong phrasing. Queen of Light's first song track "Stranded" is a superb introduction to her unique style. The title track "Queen of Light" and "Voice of Heaven" are ample evidence of a versatile singer mixing folky metal musings with an eager band engaging her vocal leadership without drowning it out.In edgy offerings "Way to Die", "The Saviour" and "Hurricane" the hard rocker kicks in with a vengeance through Helloween and Europe-tinged numbers pushing all the right buttons and screaming in all the right places. "Song by the Angels" is a ballad of provocative power in that it has the zeal of a gifted frontwoman while backed with a rocking band capable of capturing a melody."My Spirit Will Run Free" a folky-rock song that is both breezy and bluesy at the same time. The band really showcases its talents the most in this track that belongs on the radio. The album closes with "You'll be Alright" a blended masterpiece of Doro influenced shadings as if channeled through Donna Summer (I know. You have to listen to it for yourself.) and pushed forward with galloping guitar power and making this by far the most distinctive song in the album.Unlike many new bands that require three or four albums to find their identity, Rexoria is comfortable in its location on the first. A very impressive debut for a band only scratching the creative surface and still transporting our senses to a finer frontier. ic.

Album:

The conceptions of melody and harmony traditionally play a backseat role in Heavy Metal performing their duties as references to a deeper understanding of music theory and observed by enthusiasts and the scholarly, but are a rare implement as the focus of a song within the genre. REXORIA is unafraid to get their feet wet within the trepidations of sound and theory as their soundscape and compositions as a whole are built around these grandiose subjects; such studious efforts permeate every track whereupon each breadth is made with harmony and melody at its core, in lieu of raw energy or redirected aggression a focused approach weaves in cathartic passages.“Ice Breaker” is the band’s sophomore—reiterating the band’s penchant for releasing material every year since their inception—and picks up right where “Queen Of Light” ends, few albums are capable of feeling like a sequel to their predecessor rather than just new music yet this album encapsulates the feeling in full. “Velvet Heroes” has no elongated lead-in or prelude, but picks up immediately letting the listener know that speed and drive weren’t sacrificed for melody. The vocal transition between radio voice and standard fidelity is seamless and the harmonization between both voices is a hard mix to craft in and of itself. Objectively speaking “Reach For The Heavens In Time” is the prime candidate for best song on the album, with each instrument—including the voice—building upon one another to emulate each others’ timbre, repeat motifs in separate sections of the songs, seamlessly transition between each section, and end in anthemic stature. The sound is immaculate and pristine, bolstered by the confidence of the group—technicality and complexity make up the foundation of the band’s sound but are themselves not the forefront of every song as the tracks lean towards heavy and catchy to the point where the listener does not have to sit down and focus in on the song to truly enjoy the music. Unlike BUCKETHEAD or Igor Stravinsky the tracks don’t require a degree in music theory to appreciate. The guitars are loud, heavy, and thick essentially perfect for the genre and defining for the band; the bass thick and booming; the drums tight and precise; and the vocals perfectly match the instrumentation ranging from relaxed and near fluttery to biting and reaching both of which we can hear in “Endless Nights”—’s approach is distinct and definitive having about itself a triumphant and unapologetic texture.REXORIA remains true to their sound and exceeds expectations in fidelity, delivery, and performance. The band offers versatility and cleverly constructed compositions, from the aptly named “Roaring” to the slower “Var Verklinget” REXORIA has crafted itself a large palette of songs to identify with, and though the thought of Melodic Heavy Metal doesn’t register with everyone, for those who enjoy the genre “Ice Breaker” is not an album to miss.

Album:

Rexoria is back with their third studio album, where they have taken their sound to the next level. Strong melodies, heavy riffs and peculiar keyboard loops make "Imperial Dawn" a must in your record shelf. Stefan Helleblad''s (Within Temptation) mix, and Thomas "Plec" Johansson''s mastering, elevate it even further. The album ranges from new electronic hard rock to emotional folk-inspired songs. A record that will appeal to even the most discerning listener.Sweden’s Rexoria re-enter the fray in 2023 with their third full-length effort, Imperial Dawn. And very nice it is too.Unfortunately for Frida Ohlin and her band band of brothers, ‘nice’ doesn’t really cut it in today’s ultra-competitive pop metal world, and there’s simply too much material on Imperial Dawn that simply goes in one ear and out the other to make this a true contender in the band’s chosen class. There’s nothing here that’s actively offensive, you understand – indeed closing track Enchantedisland is excellent and allows the band to exit on a high – but tracks like Paradigm offer nothing new to the game, happy instead to mimick already established names (in this case Metalite), right down to the uplifting Eurovision-style key change towards songs’ end.Did someone mention Metalite? That band’s leading light, Edwin Premberg, lends his key tinkling talents to the album, and Within Temptation‘s Stefan Helleblad mixed it, whilst renowned mastering expert Thomas ‘Plec’ Johansson added his not insubstantial talents in that department, so this is a band that can obviously call on the great and the good of Euro metal to lend a hand; which makes the presentation of rather anodyne material like Devious Desire all the more frustrating to the listener. Again it’s not horrible – you’d rather hear this on the radio than, say, Post Malone – but time and again whilst listening to Imperial Dawn you find yourself wishing that the band would just occasionally break the shackles of convention and go for broke. The band are all obviously good players and writers – as the truly exciting Rage And Madness evinces as everything clicks and the band really go for the throat – and I for one would love to see them underline that fact by delivering some truly challenging heavy metal next time around.
