Bio:

LANCER is a power metal band based out of Arvika, Sweden.LANCER’s new album “Second Storm” is a lesson in melodic metal and follows a long tradition of outstanding Swedish Metal Bands like Hammerfall, Sabaton and many more! The album has been recorded in the world famous Leon Music Studios with producer Gustav Ydenius (Steelwing, Mustasch, Enforcer) and the cover artwork has been painted by Dimitar Nikolov (who has previously made artwork for Steelwing and Katana). The Swedish melodic metal band draws its inspiration from classical acts like Iron Maiden, Helloween and Gamma Ray, adding a personal and modern touch to the sound.LANCER met at the Music Academy of Ingesund in Arvika, Sweden, and the common passion for heavy metal forged them together and LANCER was born. They invaded the metal scene in the spring of 2012 with their debut EP “Purple Sky”. The EP got a warm welcome from all around the world and gave the band a record deal with the Swedish label Doolittle Group AB, owned by the world famous metal vocalist Christian Liljegren (Narnia) and a deal with Japanese label King Records at this time.I early 2013 the follow up to the “Purple Sky” EP, LANCER’s self-titled debut album was released world wide. The album was produced by Tommy Reinxeed and Ronny Milianowicz (previous collaborations with Hammerfall, Michael Kiske and Timo Tolkki to name a few!), and it received amazing reviews from the metal press all around the world. Japanese Burrn Magazine gave the album 75/100 and Sweden Rock Magazine 7/10, naming the band a new hope for European power metal, and it received even higher grades from several European and American reviewers. LANCER’s music videos for the songs Purple Sky and Young and Alive have also been aired on Metal Hammer Greece’s own TV channel.Since then LANCER has giged on several festivals and rock clubs, together with bands like Steelwing, Wolf, Bullet and Katana, and was soon hailed to be the new rising star on the Swedish Heavy/Power Metal sky. With their energetic and technically brilliant live shows, these musicians deliver the full package and have taken the world by storm the past 2.5 years.LANCER is ready to take the world with their 2nd album, Second Storm, are you?

Album:

Enter Swedish power metal band Lancer, quite possibly one of the strongest bands to hit the power metal scene in the past twenty years. They are preparing to launch their self-titled debut album in January 2013. Blending vocal styles reminiscent of Michael Kiske, speed metal guitar work with definite Malmsteen influence, Steve Harris-like bass presence, and strong bolting drums; this is one solid lineup to be taken seriously. Lancer has two releases under its belt, a demo and an EP. Nearly four years in the making, this debut full length album is nothing short of remarkable power metal, and upon first listen I felt like it was some lost 1980’s power metal album that could have only been overshadowed by “Keeper of the Seven Keys”. Complete with an armed battle ostrich, this band is definitely a band to keep an eye out for in the upcoming months. For a debut full-length album the production quality is nothing short of incredible. Upon further research, it became clear as to why that is. The album was produced by Tommy Reinxeed and Ronny Milianowicz, known for their work with Hammerfall, Timo Tolkki, Wolf, and Michael Kiske himself. Production aside, this album is drenched with revitalizing and true power metal music, including catchy melodies and perfectly layered choruses that lead to countless memorable moments scattered in each and every song. It’s quite eerie to hear all of the similarities in the album to 80s and 90s era Helloween, Iron Maiden, and Gamma Ray. It would be quite easy to pull moments of each song and compare them to the definite influencing albums and tracks for any well-versed power metaller. The album is full of such epic and classic tone, but still manages to bring nothing but original and fresh music to a weakened power metal scene. This band could definitely be responsible for a world-wide power metal revitalization come 2013. Opening the album is the band’s first single “Purple Sky” that holds a strong chorus with amazing vocal presence by Isak Stevall, and killer guitar work by Frederik Kellemen and Peter Ellström that any speed metal fan would go weak in the knees for. In the second track, “The Exiled” a serious Iron Maiden flashback is present in the bridge, as Isak uses his lower range chanting “Don’t you ever run…” producing an unnerving anticipation for what the rest of the song may bring, and of course it does not disappoint.“Seventh Angel” brings a keyboard intro into the spotlight, while Isak uses more of a classic heavy metal tone to his voice rather than the higher pitched power metal style. It truly shows off great vocal talent and range as if Bruce Dickenson and Kai Hanson had some miraculous lovechild. The riffs are classic, the bass and drums work well together in a true charging style, complete with down-tempo bluesy guitar solos; this is a fantastic and well written track. Unfortunately, as the album goes on the magic isn’t as strong in the later tracks, so LANCER definitely put their best upfront. “Between the Devil and the Deep” is a great ending to the album, while not as strong as the first half of the album; it has a more melancholy tone to it, bringing the album to a great close making any listener want more.Lancer is a must have album for any power metal/heavy metal fan, it’s so classic yet fresh, full of hook after hook. This is a strong release, worthy of some serious attention. If I had the ability to see twenty years into the future I can only hope that Lancer will have their own Ed Force One with their battle ostrich painted on it flying around the world to sold out amphitheaters everywhere. The only complaint to be said about the album is there needs to be more music, because I seriously can’t get enough. Buy the record! You won’t regret it!

Album:

Following the release of a Demo and an EP, they present their second full-length released entitled “Second Storm,” containing nine tracks. “Running from the Tyrant” is the opening track. Right out of the gate there is a contagious energy imbedded in the swift pace of the song, and a big, full chorus. Isak’s vocal range is impressive, in the tradition of the bands that precede them in this genre.“Iwo Jima” is a nice war anthem, full of pleasing harmonies and big melodies, really drawing out the sound in grand fashion. Favoring the keep the guitar solo as an accent to the main melody, they do a good job of keeping that memorable long after the track ends. “Masters and Crowns” features that two guitar opening that is so common in the NWOBHM movement of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. The sound here in this track really soars, shooting high into the sky. When Isak lets loose, he can really negotiate his voice in the upper ranges with ease, as in the opening scream of “Behind the Walls.” The hastened pace careens straight at you, with the double bass thundering forward like well-oiled machine. The fifth track “Aton” clocks in just under ten minutes. It has a slower and more deliberate rhythm, like any epic story. There is definitely a mystical quality to this piece and some noted influence from IRON MAIDEN in the guitar harmonies, particularly after the second chorus. There are really three distinct movements in the song if you will, and they connect very memorably. I really like the way the song ends in this massive crescendo of beauty and light. Returning to the swift rocking pace, “Children of the Storm” lays down a super melodic chorus and a thick bridge section chocked full of guitar harmonies. Key changes provide a nice element of surprise. “Eyes of the Liar” is another song where that mysterious, almost supernatural quality permeates the track, but does not overtake the main melody. “Fools Marches On” is the closing song and the second longest on the album. They close in grand fashion here, with a track that seems to encompass nearly every element that we have heard to date. LANCER’S power metal is all about feeling and emotion. It just makes you feel good, like you want to take up a quest to a distant land and leave everything behind. The musicianship and songwriting is strong and fresh, and the band’s synergy is driven by the very impressive vocals of Isak Stenvall.

Album:

Swedish heavy metal commando Lancer has completed the recordings on the new studio album "Tempest" and signed a new record deal with the new German label Fireflash Records, that will release the album worldwide. "Tempest" was recorded by the band and Anders Backelin (Lord Belial a.o.) at Armageddon Recordings Studio, who also mixed and mastered the album along with guitarist Per-Owe Solvelius, who was the main producer of "Tempest"."It is heavy, it is dramatic and it is a new direction for Lancer. I can't believe it's been six years since last time we released an album, but with the line-up changes, the pandemic and the intention of making 'Tempest' a great comeback album, we let it take its time. We have developed our sound, it's a bit darker, especially lyrically. Production-wise, more dynamic and gritty. A bigger picture of sound, with elements we have never used before. We wanted the artwork of the cover to symbolize this change, with the devastating storm drawing in with the wasteland it creates. We have been known for using birds on our previous album covers, so the demon raven of 'Tempest' seemed only natural and the title is just a more epic and stronger word for storm, in my opinion. Overall I want to use the most well-known cliché of all time: this is the best album we have done so far! And it's totally true, all jokes aside. We are absolutely thrilled to release it to the world" says the band.
