This one was a welcome addition to my collection, as I've been keeping tabs on U.K. band Fury for a while now after being impressed by one of their early EPs. 'The Lightning Dream' is their first full-length album, and it's certainly good enough to make Metal fans sit up and take notice.With a name like Fury, it will come as no surprise that this is a straight-up Metal album for fans of the old-school variety. The album contains ten belting tracks that beg to be turned up to ear bleeding volume, with the sort of content that would have had Music For Nations salivating back in the day. Opener 'In To The Dark', an aggressive, perfect introduction to the band, and the equally powerful 'Warrior's Prayer' have been kept from the earlier EPs, but they are excellent tracks so it's a fair shout. Elsewhere, the eight new tracks really demonstrate what Fury are all about, and they are all about Metal, natch.If you miss the days when bands weren't afraid to spend over ten minutes on a track then you'll love this album. Closer 'The Lightning Dream' clocks in at over eleven minutes, with five other tracks pushing past the seven minute barrier. It can be so easy for longer songs to get bogged down and boring, but Fury take to the format like Metal ducks to water. There's over an hour of music here and it's all good. Vocalist Julian Jenkins (hooray for normal names!) has a solid delivery that suits the music, and is backed by a band that more than lives up to the name Fury. Drummer Alasdair Davis, for example, stamps his authority over every track like a rampaging T-Rex.'The Lightning Dream' is a delightful surprise, showing a U.K. band that have obviously thought long and hard over exactly what they wanted to deliver. Thoughtful, powerful and heavy as hell, Fury have made the first step in what should, if there's any justice, be a successful career.

Critically acclaimed and hotly tipped to be a big name in the future of heavy metal, Fury offer you "The Lightning Dream".Fury's roots stretch back in to the early 2000's, with Julian seeing the band through various incarnations, including the addition of current Bassist Martin Trail in 2009.It wasn't until the arrival of the current Drummer (and marketing guru) Alasdair Davis in 2010 that Fury really took off. The following years saw Fury play across the country and in to Europe, release two E.P's ('Fury' and 'Burn The Earth') and slowly cultivate an avid fan base.The current line up was cemented by the addition of Jake Beesley on lead guitar in 2012, with Fury continuing to play at some of the biggest venues and festivals (Hammerfest, Hard Rock Hell, Bloodstock) across the UK.Fury's first full length album, 'The Lightning Dream', was released in 2014, and fans we're finally able to see the full, expansive scope of the bands musical vision. The album was warmly received by fans and critics, and the following two years of touring saw the band play every song from the album- proving that this album had no filler tracks, with each songs unique journey more than worthy of a performance.

Album:

One thing you can count on with purveyors of “true” heavy metal, they love themes of sci-fi, fantasy, mythology, and sword and sorcery. England’s Fury is one of those bands taking the same things to exponential levels on their second long player, Lost In Space. And dig the cool sci-fi art from Andy Pilkington of Very Metal Art.Besides those themes, there’s no disguising Fury’s sound. Theirs is elemental and classic “keep it true” heavy metal, born from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. They have the twin guitar presence for harmony, melody, and ambitious leads. A clean bass line is heard throughout coupled to deep drums for a solid rythym section. Pacing and tempo can very from steady moderation to speedy excess. Julian Jenkins vocals are clean and melodic, and the vocal arrangements from harmonious choral to metal chants and cheers. Again, Fury works from the fundamentals. And they want to do it without regard to time restrictions. Lost In Space is a long album, better than 74 minutes, plan to spend some time with it or maybe halve it. There’s no song less than five minutes, with the average rounding out to better than seven. This essentially gives the band room to stretch: more repitition of refrains, more solos, drop in some nice choral effects. Thankfully, it does keep your interest.Now to mention a few songs of interest. One is Dragon’s Song, pretty much brisk song with strong guitar lines, but at the very end the drop in one of those singular choral moments. Another is Star Trippin’, again with plenty of stirring guitar work, but something of a breakdown at the four minute mark. It’s a light segue with the guitars dialed down, and then you catch the bass line. Also, there appears to a female voice injected. Either that or Jenkins dressed in drag and singing falsetto. At the start of Sons of War there’s a nice guitar intro with a somewhat Middle Eastern feeling. The song also the pace and feel of marshall music fitting the song’s title. Valhalla is the shortest song here. Essentially, a Norse ballad with vocals over light guitars at the start, before rising in power past the midpoint with guitar fury. The epic song is the closing A Tale Of Silver, at nearly 14 minutes at offers a variety of pacing and some variety in guitar segues. So there’s a sampling of the tunes. All in all, Fury and Lost In Space are the real deal, classic and true melodic heavy metal. Large, epic, and very entertaining. Quite recommended.

Still managed by themselves, Fury is ready for the major leagues with this third effort, where they mix the ’80s melodic hard rock influences with a vibrant, energetic modern sound production.What is clear into this new Fury opus first bits, is the improved arrangements and more integral sound. Guitars on ‘The Grand Prize’ are tight, on point and in your face yet very polished, Becky Baldwin’s bass is more than just beefing up as heard on ‘Road Warrior’ and the drums are unstoppable, expertly timed and the heartbeat of the overall sound.Julian Jenkins’ vocals are one or the winning cards of this band. He’s able to hit the high notes but does not shy away from songs like ‘Upon The Lonesome Tide’, a surprisingly atmospheric ballad with orchestrations and some kind of a Celtic feel.But ‘The Grand Prize’ is all about rock, and rock hard. With racing cars on the cover art and that title the album major themes are about winning & doing whatever it takes to be the best.‘Galactic Rock’ is indeed ‘galactic’, huge and heavy, even with an 80s new wave of British heavy metal touch on it, then ‘The World Is Mine’ is a bit of a different vibe for Fury, with a groovy classic hard rock foundation.‘Burnout’ rocks with an Eighties crunchy riff, ‘We Will Sing’ has an anthemic arena rock chorus (one of the best here), while title track pumps with its racing rhythm section and urgent vocals.‘The Grand Prize’ is the most varied Fury album so far, taking their 80s inspiration and adding their own, contemporary feel. The band sounds mature and solid, and I hope they do not succumb to a major label deal and compromise their art: Fury does everything right by themselves.
