Bio:

Former school mates Victor Olsson and Dino Zuzic once had a funk rock band together which ultimately went up in flames after school graduation in 2005.From the ashes rose an idea to form a heavy rock band where all their rock and metal influences could be combined into one bowl of steaming rock n’ roll soup! They soon found reinforcements in bass player Magnus Carlsson, drummer Gustav Elowson and vocalist Martin Jonasson. In 2007 a demo was recorded and released on myspace.Due to lack of time, drummer Gustav Elowson had to leave the band in early 2008. But the band soon found a new drum basher in the form of National Drum solo Champion of 2008, Anton Roos. They went on by playing gigs at several different venues in Gothenburg, which gave them a growing fanbase. In early 2009, they recorded and released their second demo.In the spring of 2010 Martin Jonasson decides to leave the band, due to personal reasons. After searching across the nation to find Martin’s replacer, it became clear that there was only one guy who had the skills for it.His name was Tobbe Jansson.Together they felt stronger than ever and recorded a new self produced demo (released early 2011) and started doing concerts again. In January 2012, SAFFIRE entered the legendary Studio Fredman (In Flames, The Haunted, Spiritual Beggars etc…) and began recording their debut album “From Ashes to Fire”. The recording went on during the spring and early summer and in June they came back to the studio to mix the album. At the controls were no other than Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd.The album was later mastered at the world famous Fascination Street Studios by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Symphony X, Soilwork etc..)In november 2012 SAFFIRE signed a record deal with Inner Wound Recordings. The album will be released May 17th in Europe and North America.…and who knows what the future holds!

Album:

Prior to releasing their debut album, From Ashes to Fire, Sweden's Saffire had cut three demos. Reflecting on these, the band thought they had enough material for a strong full-length work. Well, friends, it appears they did, and maybe some more, as this recording has 13 songs with over an hour of music. It's good stuff, too, an entertaining blend of classic melodic hard rock with a metal edge. The songs are well-crafted and varied, depending upon a strong rock groove, melodies, and hooks in both lyrics and arrangements to propel them. Several good examples of this come with Magnolia, Freedom Call, and The Betrayer's Fate. The latter two are also examples of the fine placement of keyboards occurring in all the songs.Saffire easily blurs the line between hard rock and metal, certainly with heavier songs like Kingdom of the Blind, A Symphony Unheard, and Paralyzed. But their metal is never oppressive or harsh, always relying on good melodies to move them. Two anthems or ballads are thrown with What If and She Remains a Mystery, which has some delicate piano work and an impressive guitar solo (which are good throughout). As a whole From Ashes to Fire is a strong album, although a song like End of the World trudges along in an uninspiring way. Perhaps the album's best asset is that you get a lot of good music for your money. How many band's cut an album at over sixty minutes with a consistent interesting and entertaining performance? You know the answer to that already. Saffire's From Ashes to Fire is easily recommended.

Album:

Highly praised worldwide - and in this blog too - the first album from Swedes SAFFIRE combined melodic hard rock with AOR in equal parts. But for their second effort "For The Greater Good" the guys have gone even further; this is a fascinating melodic hard rock album exploring many territories and melodies through inventive arrangements and sounds."For The Greater Good" is a pumped up and fast flowing take on AOR with that sentiment at its heart, but with a strong injection of pace and a little bit of grit thrown in too. This new Saffire albums is being released by AOR Heaven Records, but believe me, this is rockier, heavier and has more depth than “simple” AOR. If you want clean and fresh melodic hard rock with brains, then this is in must have territory. The first couple of tracks are really good rockers showing Saffire members prowess as musicians with soaring vocals, strong arrangements and an anthemic feel. But then arrives title track "For The Greater Good"... wow ... this is killer, devastating, captivating melodic hard rock piece with truly original arrangements, variation and kick. The multi-part harmonies will blow you away, the riffs are to die for and the solo is a blast. Think Erik Martensson's Eclipse, Dynazty, Kymera... yes, this is that good.Same with the haunting verses of follower "Heartless", a calmer AOR piece with clean guitars but then explodes into a fantastic pumping chorus. Again... WOW."Dandelion's Shame" is heavier, with a lot of bite, but catchy as hell, just listen that prime chorus. "Shadowland" turn thing even harder with a groovy classic riff, epic vocals and swirling keyboards. One think I want to mention about this new Saffire albums are the keyboards: most are classic organ-like - not synth sounding - which adds a special aura to the album, and works greatly.More quality arrives with the broken "Wake Up the World" (with some Coldspell on it!), "As Promises Burn" brings a delicate midtempo yet farrr from the common, elaborated and juicy."Blame It on the Rain" brings catchy, rapid AOR to the table with an irresistible riff / chorus combination, "Ghost Town" rips your ears with a monster groove - and then the guys surprise again with a peculiar chorus, before the superb "This Is Not the End" ends the CD on high note as well with a semi-ballad feel but plenty of magic.Saffire's "For The Greater Good" will leave you with your jaw dropped and your melodic hard rock heart happy. One of the greatest things of this album (among many) is that whilst the songs are vaguely scripted along expected lines, there is endless variety in them. There are plenty of changes of pace and attitude with some genuine diversions on the way.I'd say there's a word which perfectly describes this album: "momentum". The guys in Saffire are masters in that, you know what I mean? That special moment in a song when you say; wow! There's a plenty in this terrific CD.What a great year for the genre has been so far... add Saffire's "For The Greater Good" to the 'best of' list.

Album:

For fans of Deep Purple, Rainbow, AOR and 80's melodic hard rock. Saffire was formed in 2005 when Victor Olsson and Dino Zuzic were in school together. The idea was to form a band based on old school melodic hard rock and heavy metal but add a modern twist to it. After months of searching and auditioning, the duo was joined by Magnus Carlsson, Martin Järbur and Gustav Elowson. In 2007 they recorded a first demo but soon after, Gustav had to leave the band and was replaced by then 17-year old Anton Roos, who had just won the Swedish Drum Solo Champion of the year contest. Another demo was recorded in 2008 and Saffire started playing shows in the local area, slowly making a name for themselves. In 2010 Martin was replaced by Tobias Jansson, and an EP was recorded and released. The band kept playing lot's of live shows and finally in 2013, Saffire signed with Inner Wound Recordings for the release of their debut album "From Ashes to Fire". The album was highly praised all over the world, and Rocknytt.net, Sweden's biggest rock website, put the album on their top 10 list of the best albums of 2013. Saffire went on to tour all over Scandinavia, playing some of the biggest festivals like Sabaton Open Air, Tons of Rock Gothenburg Sound Festival alongside bands like Slayer, Steel Panther, At the Gates and Sabaton. In November 2015 they released their second album "For The Greater Good". The album was, as its precursor, highly praised all over the world. In January 2016 they held a sold out release show in Gothenburg which followed by a co-tour together with Spiritual Beggars in the spring. During the summer of 2016 they played many of the big rock festivals in Sweden which includes Sweden Rock Festival, Metallsvenskan, Skogsröjet and Rock in Lisch together with artists like Queen, GHOST, Twisted Sister, The Hellacopters etc...Now in 2018 Perris Records is proud to release their "Where The Monsters Dwell" CD worldwide.

Album:

Saffire announces the release of new album "Taming The Hurricane"! After parting ways with their former drummer, there was a plethora of emotions of all kind within the band. They were a mess and they needed some time to rejuvenate and find a new spark. Creatively they've always found the hurricane to be a good parable to their writing, as they've always had a creative mess within their heads, sometimes writing whole songs within a matter of minutes, without even touching an instrument. It's all about channeling and focusing that energy and well of power to their benefit, and trying to tame it. Hence "Taming The Hurricane".The album marks a new era with the entrance of Efraim Larsson, a groovy powerhouse of a drummer, with even more raw power than they've had before. In a way, his sound and style, has influenced this album quite a lot and the focus has been on just that, raw power. Both in songs and production style. Lyrically, they try to both involve personal life experiences as well as putting a spin on current events of the world. Guitarist Victor Olsson comments: "A song like 'Flight Of A Thousand Wings' is extra special for me as it's a sort of farewell to my dear late grandfather. A theme that became personal to almost every one of us as we all quite recently experienced grief and sorrow from losing a loved one."

Album:

Album releases January 23, 2024.Usually, when recording an album, musicians indicate certain modifications to the product, but at some point this must be finalized and the master must be delivered to the record label. Well, SAFFIRE have decided to retrace their steps and remix and add some details to what was their 2015 album “For The Greater Good”, and in 2024 they will release their version “Redux”.For those who did not have the opportunity to listen to the original, this is a good time to delve into the band’s proposal, with a very modern hard rock, which from the beginning with “The Great Escape”, with that furious Hammond intro , which promises power and does not disappoint, followed by “Casters Of The First Stone” and then the song that gives the album its name. Three very powerful songs, with guitar riffs that hit hard, but without losing the melody.“Heartless” has a slower tempo, and is more melodic, balancing with the first 3 songs. And it fits perfectly with “Dandelion’s Shame”, with verses in which the piano and guitars play perfectly, to give way to an excellent chorus. The singer Tobias Jansson has a very powerful voice that, although in most of the songs he imposes the strength that the genre needs, he has no problem placing it in the quieter sections.“As Promises Burn” is based on a bass riff that dominates the entire song, with an instrumental chorus in which the clean guitars take over, and which is still a curiosity.“Blame It On The Rain” is in the line of “Dandelion’s Shame”, while at the end there are “Ghost Town”, very rocking and fierce, and the very calm “This Is Not The End”, which varies quite a bit. which is the general line of the album. They believed it was necessary, and we are not the ones to say otherwise.
