Newsted (stylized as NEWSTƎD) was an American heavy metal band formed in October 2012.The lineup consisted of former Metallica, Flotsam and Jetsam and Voivod member Jason Newsted on lead vocals and bass, drummer Jesus Mendez, Jr., guitarist Jessie Farnsworth, and Staind guitarist Mike Mushok.The band released the four-song EP Metal (recorded before Mushok had joined) on January 8, 2013, and followed up with their full-length debut album Heavy Metal Music on August 6, 2013.Guitarist Mushok stated that there are no plans for the band to regroup for any further touring or recording, explaining that Jason Newsted "shut down" the project in early 2014.Jason went silent after the news broke out and was away from social media for a very long time.Jason Curtis Newsted (born March 4, 1963 in Battle Creek, Michigan) is an American metal bassist known for his work with Metallica, Voivod and Flotsam and Jetsam. Joining Metallica in 1986 after Cliff Burton's death, Newsted remained a member until 2001, making him the band's longest-serving bassist. After he left Metallica, he continued with his project Echobrain, played with Ozzy Osbourne and joined heavy metal band Voivod. Newsted uses the pseudonym Jasonic, which serves as both his alias in Voivod and the name of his music publishing company. He is also the founder of the Chophouse Records studio and label based in California.In December 2012, Jason announced that he had formed his own band called Newsted with drummer Jesus Mendez Jr. and guitarist Jessie Farnsworth, with Staind guitarist Mike Mushok joining later in March 2013.The band released a four-song EP, titled Metal, on January 8, 2013.

Heavy Metal Music is the only studio album by American heavy metal band Newsted.It was released on August 6, 2013, and is the first Newsted release to feature guitarist Mike Mushok who joined the band following their debut release EP, Metal (2013).The album is the band's only full-length release, since bassist Jason Newsted shut down the project in early 2014.The band finished pre-production of the album in March 2013,and finished recording sessions in April.The album title, track listing and artwork were unveiled on June 4, 2013, along with the album's first track, "Heroic Dose". The album features two songs, "Soldierhead" and "King of the Underdogs", from their debut EP, Metal.On July 18, 2013, Newsted premiered a second track, "Ampossible".On July 25, 2013, Newsted released an official lyric video for the song "Above All".
