Bio:

Lit is an American rock band, formed in 1988 in Fullerton, California. They are best known for their song "My Own Worst Enemy".In 1987 Jeremy Popoff and Jerry Neel formed the band Strate Lace and performed three live shows together: The Troubador in Hollywood, The Waters Club in San Pedro, and a back-to-school party in a friend's back yard. Neel quit the band to pursue a career in the mortgage industry. Then Jeremy Popoff and bassist Kevin Baldes met, and soon after, began playing music together. Later on, Baldes (16 at the time) and Popoff's brother, A. Jay (14 at the time), formed the pop metal band Razzle in 1988 with Sean Holland. The lineup included Kevin Baldes (bass, lead vocals), Sean Holland (guitar), and A. Jay Popoff (drums, percussion). They performed their first show on June 26, 1988, at The Troubadour. In 1989, A. Jay switched from drums to lead vocals, and the band added guitarist Jeremy Popoff and drummer Allen Shellenberger. Things began to come together in 1990, when the group released a demo tape and an EP entitled New Vibe Revolution in 1993. Razzle dissolved in 1993 and became Stain in 1994, which had a much harder and heavier sound. They released a demo tape in 1995 and eventually signed with Malicious Vinyl in 1995. After finding out the name "Stain" was already owned, the band changed their name to Lit. On April 1, 1997 the group released Tripping the Light Fantastic on the Malicious Vinyl record label.Malicious Vinyl went out of business shortly after Tripping the Light Fantastic was released, which left the band unsigned once again. They spent their time writing a new batch of songs and showcasing for various record labels until they signed with RCA Records in 1998.The group shot to stardom starting with their second album titled A Place in the Sun, released in February 1999. A Place in the Sun yielded the hit single, "My Own Worst Enemy," which reached mainstream popularity by peaking at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100, topping the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart for a total of 12 weeks, and receiving a Billboard Music Award for the biggest modern rock song of 1999. It was followed by "Zip-Lock" (which featured Blink-182 in the video) and "Miserable", the latter of which was among the top ten most played songs of 2000 and featured Pamela Anderson in the video. Shortly after the album went platinum in the USA and gold in Canada becoming the band's best selling album. The band performed over 286 shows and toured worldwide in support of A Place in the Sun. In addition to the Vans Warped Tour and a slot on Woodstock 1999, the band toured with The Offspring, Garbage, and No Doubt. The band's tracks also appeared in soundtracks of Ready to Rumble and The Replacements.Lit followed up A Place in the Sun with the 2001 release of Atomic. The new album steered away from the sound of their last pop punk album, resulting in a more mature yet ultimately less successful format. The band's highest charting single was "Lipstick and Bruises" which reached Top 10 on the Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks. Lit toured to support Atomic with Kid Rock and Butch Walker. The group was released from their contract with RCA Records in late 2002. Lit went on a small, intimate club tour in the fall of 2003 before releasing the self-titled Lit on the DRT Entertainment label on June 24, 2004. The single "Looks Like They Were Right" made it on the Top 40 charts. That year the group also put out its first long-form DVD, All Access, on November 16, 2004. On November 23, 2009, Lit played their first concert since Allen Shellenberger's death. Drum tech Nathan Walker, who had filled in for Shellenberger earlier that year, was now his successor on drums. They later announced that they had begun to work on a new album. In April 2010 during an interview with OC Talk Radio, Lit hinted that they would return to a major label for their next release. They also revealed their work on a new management deal, as well as performing new material live.In September 2010, Kevin Baldes confirmed that Lit were in the studio, writing and recording their sixth studio album. The band worked with producer Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Foreigner, Sheryl Crow, Faith Hill). The band reported that they were still in the studio recording in July 2011, and released a demo video titled "You Tonight". Lit announced in December 2011 that they were back in the studio with producer Butch Walker to finish their new album. It was also announced that the band had signed with Megaforce Records and would release their new album The View from the Bottom on June 19, 2012.The first single, "You Tonight," was released on iTunes on May 1, 2012, and a video for "The Broken" was released in August 2012.On January 7, 2013, frontman A. Jay Popoff told Loudwire that after Lit finished touring in support of The View from the Bottom, they would begin writing their next album.A video for "Miss You Gone" was released on June 13, 2013.On December 9, 2013, the band announced via its Facebook page that it would perform a special 15th anniversary show for A Place in the Sun, where the band played the entire album from front to back on February 28, 2014, at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California.

Album:

The View from the Bottom is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Lit, released on June 19, 2012, by Megaforce Records. It was the band's first new album in eight years, after the release of the Lit album in 2004 and the death of their drummer Allen Shellenberger in 2009. The album is dedicated to Shellenberger's memory. In addition to being dedicated to Shellenberger, the album also features a track called "Here’s to Us", which is a tribute to him. It is the first album with the rhythm guitarist Ryan Gillmor and the only one with Nathan Walker on drums. After the band released their fourth album, Lit in 2004, the band was hit with a number of hardships. A. Jay and Jeremy Popoff's stepfather died in a motorcycle crash that also severely injured their mother. While the band continued touring, eventually, in 2008, the band's drummer, Shellenberger, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and died the following year. After his death, Lit was unsure whether or not to continue as a band. The remaining members, during New Year's Eve in 2009, met at the bar they run, "The Slidebar", and decided to continue as a band and to make a fifth album. The album features a track called "Here’s to Us", which is a tribute to Shellenberger. This version is a re-recorded and reworked version of the same song that was featured in a slideshow on the band’s YouTube page. The pictures in the slideshow featured the band and Shellenberger. The band began writing new material in various sessions in 2010 and 2011.They chose Nathan Walker, who had been both a close friend to the band and their drum tech, to fill in on drums.Ryan Gilmor was brought in as a new, fifth band member, to "round out the band's sound" as a rhythm guitarist and keyboard player. In late 2011, the band began recording with the producer Butch Walker. They extensively demoed songs and wrote many more than would appear on the album, both firsts for the band in the recording process. The album was primarily recorded live in the studio."Same Shit, Different Drink" was made available for free download on Rolling Stone's website in April 2012.The first single, "You Tonight", was released on iTunes on May 1, 2012, and the album was released on June 19, 2012.To promote the album's release, the band went on the Summerland Tour with Everclear, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms and Marcy Playground."Miss You Gone" was released to radio on August 7, 2012.A video for the single "The Broken" was released on August 16, 2012, and a video for "Miss You Gone" was released on June 13, 2013.

Album:

Atomic is the third studio album by the American rock band Lit, released on October 16, 2001, by RCA Records. It peaked at #36 on the US Billboard 200."Happy in the Meantime" was used on the soundtrack for Mr. Deeds and is played as the credits roll."Over My Head" was used on the soundtrack for the 2000 animated science fiction film, Titan A.E.."Lipstick and Bruises" was used in the soundtrack for the 2001 cult comedy film, Out Cold."The Last Time Again" was used in the final credits of the 2001 film, American Pie 2, but is mistakenly listed as "Last Time Again".It is their last album to be released on RCA. The sound of a helicopter fills your ears. A crowd roars as the propellers whip through your brain. A guitar starts whining like the voice of a generation done wrong. Heavy on the guitars, a sound reminiscent of the angst-ridden 90's, Lit is on the scene again with Atomic, their most recent release since A Place in the Sun two years ago. However, it is a gentler, more mature Lit, but don't be fooled by the "gentler" label. They haven't trashed their loud riffing and earth-shattering drumming. It seems that Lit has moved past that crazed MTV generation of bands that were as vapid as the VJs themselves. They are well aware that they are on the cusp of poppy rock, although they are frequently pitched into the Alternative and Indie categories. But, it seems since they have decided to embrace the pop sensibility, it is serving them extremely well.Atomic is sure to be a long-lasting alternative album. It has all the elements of a well-produced CD. There are the familiar sounds of The Pursuit of Happiness, Weezer, Sloan, Oasis, Third Eye Blind, Cheap Trick and even, gasp! Van Halen. There are the requisite heavy hitters such as "Someone to Someone" and "Live for This", but the softer side of Lit is oh-so-attractive in songs like "Addicted" ("I'm so addicted to you, but you're such a dick to me"), their current release "Lipstick and Bruises", the Goo Goo Dolls-like "Slip", Third Eye Blind's younger sister, "She Comes", the neo-Beach Boy "Sunny Weather", and the almost-ballad, "Happy in the Meantime". There is a confidence here that not only comes with age but with making records time and again. Touring over the years with No Doubt, Garbage and Offspring has given them a base of maturity upon which to build their musical CV. But, with words like "Wow! This is rad!" and a penchant for Jagermeister ("Jager"), they are still boys in the alternative world filled with men like Jeff Martin of The Tea Party, Beck, or Elvis Costello. But even if you aren't an alternative lover, this pop-friendly CD may not be earth shattering, but the songs are fun and funny. Think Sloan with Barenaked Ladies-type lyrics. The best way to describe their music is this: Atomic's "The Last Time Again" was featured in American Pie 2. This kind of universal song is not only going to appeal to the thirteenth generation but perhaps to those just turning thirty, trying to eke out the last few years of penultimate cool/hipness.For a band that formed in 1990, this is a long way from the days when Orange County held the reins on who was hot (Lit, No Doubt, Korn), and who wasn't (anyone mainstream). If you don't think you're going to like their sound, you're wrong. There's something here for everyone and it is far from the loudness that was their first CD, Tripping the Light Fantastic, and is a softer version of their second release, A Place in the Sun.This isn't going to be something that you'll listen to over and over, but you'll listen. And you'll be pleasantly surprised. I know I was.
