Bio:

Asking Alexandria are an English metalcore band from York, North Yorkshire formed initially in 2003 by lead guitarist Ben Bruce. The most known lineup came into play around 2008, starring former lead singer Danny Worsnop, bassist Joe Lancaster, keyboardist and synth player Ryan Binns, and current members drummer James Cassells and rhythm guitarist Cameron Liddell. Lancaster and Binns later departed from the band in 2009 with Lancaster joining heavy metal band With One Last Breath. Bassist Sam Bettley joined the band that same year, and in January 2015 Worsnop departed to focus on his new band We Are Harlot and was later replaced by Denis Stoff of Down & Dirty and Make Me Famous. The band has released four studio albums, their most recent being The Black, which was released on 25 March 2016.

Album:

From Death to Destiny is the third studio album by English metalcore band Asking Alexandria. The band released the first single titled "Run Free" on 13 August 2012, via the Sumerian Records YouTube page. The second single titled "The Death of Me", which had been teased several times by band members and a third track on the new album/single "Killing You", Sumerian alike through various social media sites, was released on 28 March 2013, again via the Sumerian Records YouTube page. The live premiere took place the same day, at a performance at the Nile Theatre in Mesa, Arizona. Sources say that the track "Run Free" will be different on From Death to Destiny than the version released on Under the Influence: A Tribute to the Legends of Hard Rock. The album was released on 6 August 2013. This is the last album to feature original lead vocalist Danny Worsnop. The album was recorded in seven different studios.

Foundation in Connersville, Indiana
Foundation Estate in Rochester, Michigan
NRG in Los Angeles, California
Darth Mader Music in Los Angeles, California
Allan Hessler's Studio
Stevie Blacke's Studio
A studio in London (a friend of the band recorded some short vocal parts, found in "The Death of Me")
Mixed by David Bendeth at House of Loud Studio

Part of the album was recorded on the band's tour bus. They had announced in previous years that they had wanted to do this. They cleared out parts of the back recreational area of the bus, and installed a small soundproof room, and an area for a mixing board and computer. This is briefly visible in the video released by the band of Danny getting 'disturbed'.When the album was released, on the first track "Don't Pray for Me" you can hear the commotion heard in a video filmed in Seattle during a live performance, where band member Ben asked the audience to vote for Danny to go to rehab. The album was released on 6 August 2013 and two official singles on iTunes. "Run Free" was released officially on 4 December 2012. The song made its live debut on 8 August 2012, at the PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey,a side-stop show from the Mayhem Festival consisting only of As I Lay Dying, Asking Alexandria, and Slipknot. "The Death of Me" and "The Death of Me" (Rock Mix) were released through iTunes on 16 April 2013. Both were released with the official single album artwork. On 12 July 2013, Sumerian Records released a full album preview via YouTube which features snippets of all tracks on the standard edition of the album the same night as the band played on the TV show Guitar Center Sessions and revealed that Howard Jones is a guest vocalist on the 12th track "Until the End". On 16 July, the album was made available for pre-order on iTunes as well as the CD copy and package deals including merchandise to accompany the album. A digital copy of the album's second track "Killing You" downloads automatically when the album is pre-ordered on iTunes. On 23 July, the official music video for "The Death of Me" was released on YouTube by Sumerian Records, although the Rock Mix version of the song was used in place of the original version. There were several leaks of the album online, although Ben Bruce worked hard to take all of the leak links down.Asking Alexandria will be playing a "Midwest CD Release Tour" in support of the album's release, featuring Motionless in White, Crown The Empire, and Upon A Burning Body in the tour's line-up.From Death to Destiny debuted at No. 28 in the UK album chart on its release, and also at No. 1 on the Rock & Metal Albums chart in the UK. It debuted at No. 5 on Billboard 200, making this the band's best chart debut in the US. It is also the label's highest first-week sales with 41,082 units sold. The album has sold 151,000 copies in the US as of March 2016.

Album:

Like a House on Fire is the sixth studio album by British rock band Asking Alexandria. It was released on 15 May 2020 through Sumerian Records. It was produced by Matt Good. The album shows the group's continuity of a more straight forward and melodic hard rock sound, as established on their previous self-titled fifth album. There was a lot riding on Asking Alexandria’s previous two albums. 2016’s The Black introduced interim frontman Denis Stoff and proved the metalcore mob could survive without ex-frontman Danny Worsnop. Then just over a year later, 2017’s polarising self-titled album marked Danny’s return to the fold, presenting a band reasserting and reinventing themselves in the wake of years of upheaval, with a polished, stadium-ready sound that made their mainstream intentions clear. As a result, Like A House On Fire feels even more consequential, the defining moment where many Asking Alexandria fans will either decide if they’re still onboard or to abandon ship for good.Anyone hoping for a return to heavier climes is going to be disappointed. On the Yorkshire quintet’s sixth album, they’ve edged even further into pop-rock. They Don’t Want What We Want (And They Don’t Care) and Down To Hell aim unashamedly for the ground currently occupied by Fall Out Boy, with fat, sleazy grooves and excellent gang-chant choruses. Antisocialist and Take Some Time are similarly bombastic and tailor-made for huge stages, while The Violence – the only track that harks back to the band’s early snarling swagger – has Danny screaming over biting guitars. This is an album that will probably work best live and these are the tracks on which Asking Alexandria will undoubtedly build their future. At 15 tracks, though, Like A House On Fire is a long record and the band could have done with exerting some editorial control. All Due Respect and Give You Up feel hollow and pedestrian compared to what we’ve seen from them before, and despite closer Lorazepam’s undeniable immediacy, it feels generic with prosaic musicianship that doesn’t showcase the best of anyone’s talents. Asking Alexandria have committed admirably to their new incarnation, but too much of Like A House On Fire doesn’t quite nail the big finale.

Line Up:

Danny Worsnop – lead vocals, additional guitar
Ben Bruce – lead guitar, backing vocals
Cameron Liddell – rhythm guitar
Sam Bettley – bass
James Cassells – drums

Additional musicians:

Grace Grundy – guest vocals on track 5

Additional personnel:

Matt Good – production
Joe Grayem – co-production on track 14
Brand Birtwistle – co-production on track 14
Sam Malko – co-production on track 14

Tracklist:

01. House On Fire (3:33)
02. They Don't Want What We Want (And They Don't Care) (3:15)
03. Down To Hell (3:16)
04. Antisocialist (3:36)
05. I Don't Need You (3:42)
06. All Due Respect (3:55)
07. Take Some Time (3:25)

Album:

It feels like it was only yesterday that Asking Alexandria released their sixth studio album, Like A House On Fire. Okay, yes. It’s been merely a year inbetween releases, but what else can bands do in this time when touring just isn’t an option right now? Despite this release receiving mixed reactions from fans, the band saw fit to keep pushing forwards and on See What’s On The Inside, they’ve allowed themselves to strip back to their roots and initial love for music and really contemplate where they stand today in the alternative/metal/rock genre.Kicking off the album is opening track ‘Alone Again’ and straight up, we hear a band reminding us and them why they fell into music in the first place. It’s their strongest single we’ve heard in the last few years, whilst also hinting at a more mature version of Asking Alexandria. ‘Faded Out’ further marks the band’s progression with an edgy rap-rock verse thrown in by vocalist Danny Worsnop, adding the much needed wildfire that the band have been searching for since their early days. The motivational lyrics seeping through the punchy, melodic instrumentals on this track particularly were a huge vibe for me personally. So far on See What’s On the Inside, it’s almost as if the band remembered their potential they uncovered when they unleashed that self-titled album back in 2017. ‘Never Gonna Learn’ is an earworm of radio friendly rock that the band are striking for on this record. I’m a sucker for a punchy riff that I can blast in the car on a scorching summer’s day, and this one gave me those feels. But it’s ‘If I Could Erase It’ where Asking Alexandria reach their full potential on this record. Hands down the track you need to hear this week, the song perfectly captures the band’s past, present and future in a succinct, cleverly crafted manoeuvre that’ll propel them in the right direction. You want the heavy of Stand Up and Scream combined with the thrilling melodies of their self-titled album? You’ll get it all here. This is the style that represents the band to a tee, and we need more of this.If that sent your heart racing, prepare to get in tune with your deepest thoughts and emotions on ‘Find Myself’. A track that features some intricately beautiful orchestral instruments (reminiscent of when Architects redid ‘Animals’), ‘Find Myself’ sees the band crafting a beautiful rock melody, bleeding guitars and strings together for some of the softer moments on the album. ‘You’ve Made It This Far’ will encourage you to seek answers in your own mind, through its uplifting, explosive rock style emanating from the getgo. Nowhere near the heavy styles from earlier on, it does give off a similar vibe to what we heard from Escape the Fate and Atreyu earlier in the year. Title track ‘See What’s On The Inside’ is soul-soothing with its brooding emo-rock melody shedding light on looking inwards towards your soul.Heavy riff energy does return towards the end of the album though, with ‘Misery Loves Company’ bringing back the punchiness with an infectiously heavy riff akin to what I’ve been hearing come out of the UK music scene this year. I enjoyed the universality of this track with each listen as I hit repeat, and how they’re throwing massive rock/punk/metal styles together into a fiery melting pot. Was guitarist Ben Bruce inspired by his recent acting endeavours with Paradise City on this next track? Maybe. But while ‘Fame’ made for a cheeky twist into metal-infused rock’n’roll and didn’t feel as strong as other tracks, I kinda saw it as Asking Alexandria’s way of rocking out and having fun with the music. The heart-racing, throttling melodies of ‘The Grey’ leaves the record on a solid finish, almost as strong as it began.See What’s On the Inside sees Asking Alexandria make a promising return to familiarity, producing some of their strongest tracks in the past four years. I definitely found this album a little more rounded and enjoyable than last year’s release and you can tell that they’ve stripped it back, honed in on their roots and thought real hard about where they’d like to see themselves in the scene from here. No longer the same band from 2009, Asking Alexandria have established their musical style down melodically-driven paths and pulling at some deep emotions which will leave you feeling inspired. While they’re yet to find that perfect harmony in their music to please everyone, this album does push them forward in the right direction for future releases.
