ALL FOR THE KING is a new band from Sweden releasing their self-titled debut, a mix a classic metal / hard rock and modern heavy. The group is formed by musicians with different background; founder guitarist Erik Tilling comes from metal, singer Ricard Hulteke has his origins in soul & gospel (although he sings for hard rockers Empire 21), Johan Tjernström is the bassist in the Ole Børud Band (Westcoast), while Richard Tonyson played drums for various fusion bands.The result is a quite original heavy rock album with a modern sound.Yes, "All For The King" sound is modern, but the songwriting backbone is classic '80s/90s. Additionally, Tilling's style is strongly influenced by Tony Iommi (especially the riffs), while Hulteke vocals are clearly reminiscent of Glenn Hughes. He does not reach as high as Glenn, but Ricard has more depth and weight.There's a quite heavy riff in opener 'I Am God', but it's in follower 'The Old Man' where ALL FOR THE KING show their real musical style: the verses are dense, but abruptly, the chorus is extremely melodic, adorned by cleverly placed keyboards.'I Belong To You' is even better, in fact, one of the highlights. It's a modern hard rocker driven by a broken riff, and the chorus is powerful an highly melodious at the same time. The vocals are crystal clear (as on the entire record) and a pleasure to listen, pitch perfect.The band try something different with midtempo 'Never Back Down', I found 'Not Ashamed' similar to an old Lynch Mob song, while 'Rules Of Love' is very commercial with an infectious chorus.Perhaps my favorite from the CD, in 'Alive' ALL FOR THE KING showcases another side. The heavy riffs are gone here in favor of classic melodic hard rock scales / patterns, plenty of keyboards and with a sweet chorus. Great song!More variation appears in 'Going Blind' with a bit of late '90s Queensryche on it, then title track 'All For The King' brings to mind '80s Ian Gillian-fronted Black Sabbath (there's classic organs reinforcing the vibe).Mixing classic & modern sounds but always ruled by melody, "All For The King" is a stupendous debut from this new Swedish outfit. While the band has a religious background lyrics are very interesting with a global social appeal.What I like about ALL FOR THE KING is its variation, all songs are different but the album results very cohesive. You'll find very good musicianship, clear vocals and polished production here.A strongly recommended debut at the end of the year.

All For The King is a band that caught my eye in 2017 with their self-titled debut album. Now they're back with a follow-up in the form of the album "Let There Be Light" and of course I'm curious to hear what it sounds like.This is melodic hard rock with a Christian message. They have a sound that appeals to me in a positive way. All For The King can be compared to another similar band, namely Narnia. However, I think this one is a notch better. The band, based in Jönköping, consists of members Ricard Hulteke (vocals), Erik Tilling (guitar), Andreas Ålöv (bass) and Richard Tonyson (drums) However, Richard has now left the band and been replaced by Anders Köllerfors (Magnus Karlsson's Free Fall, Anette Olzon) A gigantic plus goes to both Ricard Hulteke for awesome vocals and Erik Tilling for fantastic guitar playing throughout the album. Ricard can also be heard singing in the now defunct band Empire 21.The album contains 11 tracks where I think the songs "I Am He", "The Way, The Truth And Life", "The Shelter", "St. Patrick´s Prayer" and "Let God Be God" stand out a bit extra. They are also the songs that are the most melodic and appeal to me the most. My absolute favourite, however, is "The Shelter", which is sure to be on my list of this year's best songs when we recap 2021. The song features awesome vocals and a great chorus."Let There Be Light" is a great and smooth album that will surely appeal to a lot of DMB visitors. Swedish melodic metallers ALL FOR THE KING are back with their third full length release via Roxx Records entitled ‘Darkest Before The Dawn’. The band has seen critical success early on with their first two releases, and has even been hailed by critics as a “modern day Black Sabbath.” Reviewers across the world have compared Erik Tilling’s guitar work to that of hard rock riff master Tony Iommi, and singer Ricard Hulteke to the legendary Glenn Hughes.But ALL FOR THE KING have their own sound, with strong influences, yes, however creating varied arrangements and skilled performances thanks to the seasoned musicians involved. The songwriting is of such quality, both in terms of heaviness and harmonies, that it might be taken as original material from the musical era that the band was inspired by.One of the tracks on ‘Darkest Before The Dawn’ features guest singer Ulf Christiansson, founder and singer of legendary band heavy metal act Jerusalem.ALL FOR THE KING take their influences from bands like Black Sabbath and King’s X, but I hear other bands like Chicago’s Trouble and even some traces of Stryper (specifically on the tracks “You Are My King” and “Surrender”).Ricard Hulteke has a great melodic voice, but with such strength and emotion behind it and isn’t afraid to go outside the box from time to time. Erik Tilling is a killer guitarist too who has really heavy tones, but stays melodic as well.The backbone of the band is Andreas Alov on bass and Anders Kollerfors on drums. They really keep the songs moving forward and provide a wall of low end that really puts the band into that groovy category.“The Seventh Seal” and “Light In The Dark” give you an early impression of the band’s sound. The album as a whole is heavy, but there are just some amazing hooks and choruses all over. “Stay Awake” is a just a great rock song no matter what the genre.“Blind Leading The Blind” has a Metal edge on top of Hulteke’s smooth delivery and very interesting verses. Kollerfors keeps this one so tight in the pocket too, it’s got an amazing slow grinding groove.“Fearless” is perhaps the most dark song as far as the sound goes, even though lyrically it’s extremely positive. On the flip side of that “You Are My King” is more of a straight up Classic Metal song with hot riffs.No matter how you categorize “Darkest Before Dawn”, it’s a very good rocking album. The overall sound and production are exceptional, the writing is tight and the songs melodic. These guys have a massive amount of talent.
