Album:

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the release of the highly anticipated new studio album from Unruly Child, “Can’t Go Home”, on February 24th, 2017. Marcie Free (vocalist - King Kobra, Signal), Bruce Gowdy (guitarist – Stone Fury, World Trade) and Guy Allison (keyboardist – Lodgic, World Trade, Doobie Brothers) together with the original rhythm section from the first record, drummer Jay Schellen (Hurricane, World Trade, current touring member of Yes) and bassist Larry Antonino (Pablo Cruise), are back again with an awesome rock album, which will please old and new fans alike! “Early in 2016, we decided to make time and give it a go once again with all five Unruly Child members”, tells Guy Allison. “The new album Can't Go Home has now become my favourite set of Unruly Child band songs and performances ever. True story!” The band has generated an exciting new album reflecting its musical roots in contemporary and classic rock sensibilities. With the return to the original line-up from the debut album, they have discovered that while time may pass, some things never change … “We are so excited with this new album coming out in February”, adds Marcie Free. “And if you find that you still got the heebie-jeebies after that and are in need of another transfusion of Unruly - try a shot of our new box set coming out too - it's got practically everything we've ever done in it and that should hold over even the most shakiest UC junkies for at least as long as it takes before we hit your area for some live shows! So come on get on board, baby! The UC Train is about to blast off!” The band is, in fact, also working on a box set release of their independent albums, which will see the light of day in the spring on Frontiers. “We put together all the earlier material that's out of print (the first album non-withstanding - you know, lawyers!) together in one package - one box set - to make available to our fans”, concludes Guy. News about the box set release will be coming soon. With so much excitement centered around their new record, it has sparked talk of touring ... Will they hit the road? News will also be coming on that front very shortly. The future looks very promising with the return of Unruly Child, stay tuned and get ready to enjoy another superior slice of melodic rock from these masters!

Album:

Today appeared this Japanese edition of UNRULY CHILD‘s new studio album “Big Blue World”, their seventh,to be released by Frontiers Music next August 9th.“For this album, there was a conscious decision to merge the best of what Unruly Child does, while still evolving. You know, Melodic Rock, but with that unique Unruly Child approach,” says keyboardist Guy Allison.“It’s hard for us to stand still and repeat ourselves, but we also cannot help but sound like “us”, irrespective of any artistic lateral movement. While I’m sometimes surprised what catches the ears of our fans, I think that the album has something for everyone.”I guess Allison is right, “Big Blue World” is a pretty varied album, and while I was afraid of some mentioned ‘experimentation’, I can easily tell you this is one of the best and most complete Unruly Child albums ever. The new record kicks-off impressively and in a very classic AOR way with the amazing “Living In Someone Else’s Dream”. A track that could easily appear in the band’s debut and it features a brilliant melody, great arrangements and, of course, a huge chorus line.“All over the World” is a different beast, but a very good one: it’s an elaborated, groovy melodic rocker with busy instrumentation and awesome arrangements. It bring to mind Asia, yet much more melodic. M. Free’s vocals shine here.Speaking about Marcie Free, her vocals matured with age – still impeccable – but oddly she sounds more ‘male’ than when (he) was young. On ‘Dirty Little Girl’ her vocals are mixed much more in the upfront for a stupendous effect in this solid track mixing melodic rock with classic rock. ‘Breaking The Chains’ adds acoustics guitars to the mix, and the melody is sweet midtempo. Perhaps it’s me, but this track reminds me of Far Corporation.‘Are These Words Enough’ is the mid-paced power ballad on the album, crafted with more classy instrumentation (Hammond like keys and organic clean guitars) and a ‘vintage’ production. It’s a good song that will please a wide range of listeners – it’s perfect for Classic Rock radio – however I prefer my Unruly Child more vibrant, punchy and glossy-produced.“Will We Give up Today” is a simple yet a little AOR pearl full of magic with a lot of Signal / Alias on it. Love it.I resulted very surprised when I first heard following track ‘Beneath a Steady Rain’… it’s just Free and a piano until half of the song. Really stripped with only some vocal harmonies in the background. I’d said above I prefer UC super produced, well, I’ll made an exception with ‘Beneath a Steady Rain’.Wow… this is one of the most emotional songs I heard in many, many years. Free is exceptional here, call me nuts but I hear some kind of a Freddie Mercury homage here. THIS song alone worth this disc.‘The Harder They Will Fall’ brings back the sumptuous production and stylized Unruly Child trademark sound, ‘Down and Dirty’ is a pure early ’90s melodic rocker with that fat guitars, and closer ‘The Hard Way’ mix classy UC melodic rock with some modern AOR (yes, think Vega and alike). If you spent a couple of minutes reading above, I don’t need to write more… “Big Blue World” is one of the most complete, intelligent Melodic Rock albums you’ll hear this year, elaborated with little progressive touches, perfect production and top class musicianship (and lead vocals).Oh, and there’s ‘Beneath a Steady Rain’, a future classic and a Marcie Free legacy for generations to come.

Line Up:

Marcie Michelle Free (King Kobra, Signal) - Vocals
Bruce Gowdy (Stone Fury, World Trade) - Guitars
Guy Allison (Lodgic, World Trade, Doobie Brothers) - Keyboards
Jay Schellen (Hurricane, World Trade, Asia ) - Drums
Larry Antonino (Pablo Cruise) - Bass

01. Living in Someone Else's Dream
02. All over the World
03. Dirty Little Girl
04. Breaking the Chains
05. Are These Words Enough
06. Will We Give up Today
07. Beneath a Steady Rain
08. The Harder They Will Fall
09. Down and Dirty
10. The Hard Way

Album:

Melodic rock heroes Unruly Child return with their new album "Our Glass House". The group, in its constant state of evolution, has generated an exciting new album reflecting its musical roots in contemporary and classic rock. With the return of the core original members of Marcie Free, Bruce Gowdy, and Guy Allison, the band has discovered that while time may pass, some things never change. For long-time fans of the band, this is a crucial entry in the Unruly Child discography and for melodic rock fans unfamiliar with the band, this is a wonderful entry point. After disbanding around 1993, the legendary melodic hard rock quintet Unruly Child reunited to produce a brand new album for Frontiers Records in 2010, with subsequent releases following in 2014, 2017, and 2019. Marcie Michelle Free (vocalist - King Kobra, Signal), Bruce Gowdy (guitarist - Stone Fury, World Trade), and Guy Allison (keyboardist - Lodgic, World Trade, Doobie Brothers) are now back together again for their new album, "Our Glass House". Joined by legendary fretless bass player Tony Franklin (ex-Blue Murder, The Firm) on bass and drummer Jay Schellen, Unruly Child have written and recorded a stunning new album that continues the hot streak they have been on. The album is going to be nothing short of a true delight for all AOR music lovers!Since the initial release of the critically acclaimed "Unruly Child", the band continued to release music through other projects. Marcie Michelle Free is one of the world's finest singers of the melodic rock genre and most renowned transgender vocalists .She first released a solo record as Mark Free, entitled "Long Way From Love" in 1993 and then another solo record as Marcie Free, "Tormented" in 1996. Guitarist Bruce Gowdy and keyboardist Guy Allison were quite busy over the years. They produced two more Unruly Child records without Free and participated on another World Trade album with drummer Jay Schellen. They have also pursued other projects and their reputation as writers, performers, and arrangers is second to none with their experience of working with the likes of Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Bobby Kimball (Toto), Doobie Brothers, Boz Scaggs, Air Supply, and The Moody Blues.Melodic rock fans can rejoice knowing that Unruly Child continue their current hot streak with the release of "Our Glass House"!
