Bio:

What happens when three band members of a crossover metal band team up with a Pink Floyd and Deep Purple tribute singer? To find out, there is no way around Black Hornet. The quartet around Peter Christeleit (vocals / guitar), Markus Polzer (drums), Matthias Polzer (bass) and Hannes Rau (guitar) are characterized by powerful alternative rock without blinkers for other musical realms. The four Swabians from the Ulm area do not lack musical experience: the rockers from Black Hornet have had a love of music in their hearts since they were young. Accordingly, they have been active as musicians for a long time. In addition to Black Hornet, Markus, Matthias and Hannes are on the road with the crossover metal formation “Rambomesser”, while Peter is active in a Pink Floyd and Deep Purple tribute band “NO EDUCATION”.At the beginning of 2021, what belongs together finally found together: the band Black Hornet saw the light of day. After the ideas were just bubbling up, the complete songs for the first album “Remove before flight” were already set at the end of 2021. The recordings for the album began around the turn of the year 2021/2022 in Werkall Studio Ulm. Three single / video releases are planned for 2022. Black Hornet's debut album expected to be released in Q3 2022.And otherwise? In 2022, the four Black Hornets want to attack live, of course. With a mixture of fat guitars, catchy choruses and groovy beats, the four guys can hardly wait to inspire their audience.

Album:

The quartet that is Black Hornet are formed from a crossover metal band and a Pink Floyd and Deep Purple tribute band vocalist. The sound of BH is one of alternative rock, transcending all other genre boundaries.Currently on tour with the crossover metal band, Rambomesser, Markus Polzer (drums), Matthias Polzer (bass) and Hannes Rau (guitar) are certainly not strangers to the scene, as with vocalist, Peter Christeleit, presently performing with No Education (Deep Purple/Pink Floyd tribute band). All four have been musicians for many years, going back to their early lives.BH came into being in 2021 and ‘Remove Before Flight’ is their debut album. It was recorded late 2021/early 2022, at Werkall Studio, Ulm. Three single videos are slated for release, this year, in conjunction with ‘RBF’S release. Live shows are also expected, this year.Fever Of The Night – Soaring, sweeping intro tones and quirky tangy vocals. The riff wobble works well. Brief production glitch. Quite nostalgic melody, with an old school feel. It’s the riffage that swings this. The drums play their part well, too, though. A lot of groove to this track and you find yourself getting into it, despite yourself. Good smooth fade-out.Truth – A heavier, edgier opening. Those vocals are just unusual, in their expression, but they hit the notes, dead on. A quirky arrangement, with some versatile aspects and sound effects, but it retains the rhythms. Darkness and light, to the well-defined end.Rise Higher – Introing on an underwater sense, before floating up to the surface. Again, those notably individually styled vocals enter. Something distinctly Sting-esque about them. Same goes for some of the song structures. Great power scream, at the mid-section. Another annoyingly catchy chorus. Ending on another smooth fade-out.Alone – Drum hits boom into the intro. Again, there’s a quirky edge to those vocals, with a fairly animalistic sound. It’s a bit more of a tech based track. The vocals always lift, at the choruses. A more percussive song, working around the rhythms. Strong vocal ending.Stand Up – Cymbal hits open, onto a very classic rock sound. Good strong rhythm. This is something of a dynamic track, with a powerful back beat, resonant of bands such as Toto, Europe and Journey. Well co-ordinated and effectively cohesive. Great riff solo, at the bridge, really showing itself at its peak. Strengthened by the drums, this is just a very well structured song, with a lot of very effective syncing.Driving Home – Electrifying riff intro. Straight into a speed refrain. A driven energy, straight away. Great tumbling drum rolls, falling in a cascade. Once again, it’s really well synced. Incorporating a bit of early rock ‘n’ roll, for good measure. A lot of different influences are audible, in here. This is quite a fun track, ending on a flawless crescendo, with a very decent power scream.Fucking Fences – Opening on a blues groove, taking it into more modern territory. Quite a buzz to this one. That same vocal tang holds it all together. Well vocalised melodies, especially in the peaks. There’s even a bit of funk and a bit of a rap rock feel to this, in parts. Once more, you find yourself inadvertently joining in with that well honed chorus. Finishing with pointed definition.Quit My Suffering – Straight in, with a classic rock refrain. Rhythms forming the structure, again. Lots more cymbal action here. Melody taking on a slight punky angle. That vocal tang creates an upbeat atmosphere, well supported by the accompaniments. Drums driving harder, till the end.Undercover – A more mellow tone to this intro. Good melodic catch to the chorus. Very precise, in delivery, with an airy sound, letting the song breathe. Emergency sirens scream, in the background. Some very decent solo riffage, at the bridge, setting the tone for the continued upbeat mood. Building tension sustains the energy, ending on a motorised noise, blending the sci-fi-esque, spaceship-like whirl. A lot of diverse sounds in there.Evil Masquerade – A low bass rumble opens, with some spacey, sci-fi sounds, happily, yielding to heavy riffs and metallic drive. Vocals showcasing their impressive tonal accuracy and plausibility. A strong track, with a delicious darkness, enhanced by the drums and heavy riff grooves. Just a very powerful number, featuring well sustained impact.Black Hornet – Another very noticeably driven opening, with marked cymbal energy and well entrenched grooves. Still providing that airy feel, to let the song breathe. Just a highly enthused track, gliding towards a final swarm of hornets, swirling, into the closing blackness.Overall – ‘Remove Before Flight’ is an album well aligned with its title. A curious quirkiness infuses it, with a lot of tang and evident passion. One of those productions which, though hard to categorise, is very diverse, versatile and focused, with many surprisingly catchy features. Whilst it may not float everyone’s boat, ‘RBF’ does contain a lot of great musicianship and an impressive variety of sounds. Worth a spin.
