Bio:

Founded in 1979 by singer Richard Black and guitarist Spencer Sercombe, under the name Sharks, they independently released their album ‘Alter-Ego’ in 1982, and it wasn’t long before the band became one of the hottest live bands to be found on the explosive L.A. scene. The decision to rebrand themselves as ‘Shark Island’ came in 1985 and was soon followed by their highly anticipated follow-up album titled ‘S'cool Buss’.Taking a creative cue from bands like Van Halen, Motley Crue and other hard-hitting rock acts to be found in LA, Shark Island was also the house band at the world famous Gazzaris on the Sunset Strip Fridays and Saturdays for over two years, with Bill Gazzari himself helping produce their first single, a cover of the Frank Sinatra song ‘New York, New York’.Being dubbed as ‘one of the most hard-working bands on the scene’, performing four shows per night, six days a week! Finding a suitable record deal that met with he bands focused vision proved to be difficult. A development deal with A&M records was ended after one year, but not before producing a later to be released single titled ‘Paris Calling’ and a movie soundtrack contribution on cult classic ‘Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure’. Not long after parting ways with A&M, Shark Island signed a deal with industry titan Epic records.During this time, the line-up continued to shift and reform, and in 1989 Shark Island's ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Father Time’were both chosen to be featured in the movie Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, along with their song ‘My City’ that found it’s place on the movie Point Break and later released on the soundtrack album.Bassist Chris Heilmann and drummer Greg Ellis joined in 1989 to record and release the band's first major record, a live album titled ‘Bastille Day alive at the Whisky’. Considered to be a bold statement, the idea that a debut band would release a live album, Epic Records opted for a studio record instead; and that hard-hitting record would be known as ‘Law of the Order’.Upon releasing ‘Law of the Order’, Shark Island headed out on a national tour, followed by a trip to Japan where they were met with sell-out crowds. Poor advice from management caused a break with Epic, and finding themselves, once again, weathering artistic differences between the band and the label, proved to be a conflict that would find the band at a true career-crossroads, and at this perilous time the only clarity to be found was in the fact that the bands future was so uncertain.Complicated by ‘Contraband’ a concocted ‘super group’ created by management, a schism soon developed that put the group in delay until the dawn of the ‘Grunge’ scene After this undeniable shift within the music scene, Shark Island vanished from the scene, with most of its members joining other projects. In 2006, Shark Island released ‘Gathering of the Faithful’ in partnership with Robert Marshall and Manifest Music; and these were thirteen songs of true Shark Island magic! With this current line-up featuring Richard Black (Vocals), Spencer Sercombe (Guitar), Chris Heilmann (Bass) and joined by Glen Sobel on Drums. Now, after such an arduous journey of such high’s and low’s, Shark Island has resurfaced like the Phoenix rising from the hard-rock ashes! In 2018, Richard Black and Manifest Music teamed up once again, this time with a focused effort to create an album that would act as a call to action for the revolutionary minded listeners all over the world!BLOODLINE by SHARK ISLAND is an epic eleven song musical journey which will, no doubt, find itself celebrated among both the older fans and the new; and word has it that this may be Richard Black’s best work to date. Recorded in both Croatia (while the band was touring Europe) and Los Angeles, BLOODLINE doesn’t pull any punches. Now, in 2019, the Shark Island family consists of Richard Black (Vocals), Alex Kane (Guitar), Damir Simic (Guitar), Alen Frjlak (Drums) and returning Shark Island member Christian Heilmann (Bass), credit is also given to Marko Karacic (Bass).“BLOODLINE was Produced by Alex Kane (formally of Life Sex and Death) and Executive Producer Robert Marshall of Manifest Music, while the Mixing by the legendary Sylvia Massy, Mastering by Maor Applebaum, and Design and Artwork by Paul Ferreira. With ten original songs and one blistering re-imagination of ‘Policy of Truth’ by Depeche Mode, BLOODLINE set’s itself up to arrive on the scene as one of 2019 most talked about albums!
