Bio:

Before Mötley Crüe, before RATT, even before there was a Metallica, Y&T was slogging away in sweaty rock clubs around America. When the band formed in the early 1970s, little did they know they would set the standard for hard rock bands that trailed. Many of the biggest acts of the ’80s became popular opening for headliners Y&T—and cut their teeth on the band, as evidenced by the Y&T mentions in tell-all books by acts such as Metallica and Mötley Crüe.Born in Oakland, California, Y&T is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s own innovators of the hard rock sound. Whether performing to a festival crowd of fifty-thousand or in an intimate nightclub, Y&T’s high-energy set and passionate performances still captivate legions of fans around the globe, proving Y&T’s music timeless.Originally formed as Yesterday and Today, the initial powerhouse quartet—featuring Dave Meniketti (lead guitar/lead vocals), Phil Kennemore (bass), Leonard Haze (drums), and Joey Alves (rhythm guitar)—tore through the ’70s and ’80s with their own brand of hard rock. After two ’70s albums on London Records, they shortened their name to Y&T and released eight albums on A&M in the ’80s. Two more albums with Geffen Records marked an era of change with Jimmy DeGrasso (Alice Cooper, Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth) on drums and Stef Burns (Alice Cooper, Berlin, Huey Lewis) on guitar. With a discography of 18 albums, three greatest hits collections, plus a boxed set, Y&T has sold over four million albums since their 1974 inception. The band’s most recent single I’m Coming Home has climbed to roughly 1.5 million views on YouTube. Y&T received extensive airplay with hits such as Forever, Rescue Me, Mean Streak, Don’t Stop Runnin’, and Summertime Girls—which played in heavy rotation on MTV. Y&T songs have been featured in a multitude of movies and television shows, including Real Genius, Out of Bounds, Baywatch, and Hunter. After five top 100 albums, songs that tipped into the 40s, two Bammie Awards, and many international television appearances, Y&T’s hits are still played on VH1 Classic and classic rock radio stations worldwide. With Kennemore’s untimely passing from lung cancer, the band carries on the legacy that is Y&T. Y&T continues to tour the world, featuring Dave Meniketti (guitar/lead vocals), John Nymann (guitar/vocals), Brad Lang (bass/vocals), and Mike Vanderhule (drums/vocals), playing songs that span the band’s five-decade career and including all the hits and fan favorites. Prepare to have your face melted.

Album:

Contagious is the eighth studio album by American hard rock/heavy metal band Y&T, released in 1987 through Geffen Records, which, like their previous label A&M Records, is now a subsidiary of Interscope Records (itself owned by Universal Music Group). It is the first Y&T studio album to feature a different line up since their debut album, with Jimmy DeGrasso replacing Leonard Haze on drums after he left the band in 1986.Y&T were one of the premiere American hard rock acts in the early 80s. Unfortunately, not a whole lot of fans seemed to take notice, and the band’s albums underperformed. Always the bridesmaid and never the bride, Y&T looked to Geffen Records to help them break through with the American record buying public (Y&T had previously been signed to A&M Records). But Y&T’s first album with Geffen, 1987’s Contagious, was an egregious over-correction that can only be viewed, in hindsight, as a complete and utter embarrassment for Y&T. You’ve got to feel bad for Y&T front-man Dave Meniketti here. As a talented singer, guitarist, and writer, he had to sit idly by and watch less deserving bands make it big while his own band remained a perennial opening act. But with Contagious, Dave and Y&T bowed to trends, lobotomized their sound, and were played for fools by whoever the f*ck convinced them to make this cheesy, dumbed-down disaster of a record. Brutally retarded lyrics, annoying choruses, and bad Van Halen impressions make Contagious a disappointment of epic proportions. If it weren’t so sad, it would be hilarious.

Album:

Ten is the ninth studio album by American hard rock/heavy metal band Y&T, released in 1990 through Geffen Records. It was recorded in 1989 and is the last Y&T album released before they disbanded in 1991. Joey Alves had left the band in 1989 and was replaced on rhythm guitar by Stef Burns, while Steve Smith recorded the majority of the drum tracks in place of Jimmy DeGrasso. They were one of the few American bands that rocked hard in the very early eighties. Those were some lean years in the States.Y&T deserve our respect. It was during those wasted days that Y&T were at their ballsy best. Earthshaker (1981), Black Tiger (1982), and Meanstreak (1983) were all “classic” Y&T hardwares. But luck was never really on Y&T’s side. Nope, for them Lady Luck was nothing but a disease-ridden whore. Though Y&T were on the brink of a breakthrough a few times, they never really busted out. By the time of 1987’s Contagious album, Y&T were desperately trying to hang on. Their attempt at dumbed-down party rock was a wild swing and a miss. Contagious was, for all intents and purposes, an embarrassment. At least 1990’s Ten (Geffen Records) saw them correct the ship (a little). Ten was certainly no Black Tiger, but at least Y&T could show their faces in public again.

Album:

As requested by many, here it it "Earthshaker" from the box-set "Y&T - Earthquake The A&M Years 81-85", a must have remastered pack from the most brilliant era of Dave Meniketti's band.At the very end of 2013 and almost unnoticed, there was a box-set release from one of the essential bands from the first half of the '80s: Y&T, entitled "Earthquake: The A&M Years 1981-1985".You get 7 albums spread over 4 discs, a terrific collection with all the material Remastered for an exceptional value for money.Yes, many would prefer every album in one single disc, but this way you have a glossy edition packaged in the old style 'fat' box, an extensive booklet in exceptional print quality with detailed info, and the most important; a superb sound remastered by Andy Pearce, all for less than 25 U$D it's a steal. We Highly Recommend this awesome box "Earthquake: The A&M Years 1981-1985", including 7 albums for the price of two, with a monster remastering work and a fantastic packaging.

"Earthshaker" was Y&T's first album for A&M and the first under their current name, after changing it from Yesterday and Today used on the two prior records. This record changed everything for Meniketti & Co., with a polished production (yet still retaining a quite metalized sound) and full of radio-friendly hooks. The whole album standouts driven by hot riffs, even present on the ballsy power ballad "I Believe In You", a reference for just about every hair metal to come in the way of crafting their power ballads. The remaster on "Earthshaker" is excellent as on all the albums in this box, particularly this one rescues Phil Kenmore's vocals which were too much buried in mix on several tracks.

"Black Tiger", the second Y&T record for A&M Records, was recorded at Ridge Farm, in Dorking, County of Surrey, England and produced by wizard Max Norman (Ozzy, Lynch Mob).
The classic Y&T logo makes its first appearance on the cover on a record with rather diverse material including the typical uptempo Y&T hard rockers like "Open Fire" together with melodic rock gems such as "Don't Wanna Lose", a real gem of a tune.Title track is fast and furious, while the bass driven "Barroom Boogie" gives the album character and the captivating fan favourite "Forever" gives an example of a classic Y&T trademark rock."Hell or High Water" shows Y&T's ability to be slow & melodic but still groovy and heavy, and the closing "Winds of Change" is one of the band's best ballads.

Line-Up:

"Mean Streak" was a gateway album for Y&T, and the one which made the group finally get noticed by American audiences. There's no mistaking that the opening riff to title "Mean Streak" represent the melodic (hard) rock music scene of the early eighties, together with Night Ranger and alike.Meniketti delivers his trademark melodic yet husky vocals reminiscent of Sammy Hagar & Ronnie Montrose. It should come as no surprise that Dave has collaborated with Ronnie many times. There's a killer track on "Straight Through the Heart".More of that great Y&T vocal harmony is present on my favortie "Lonely Side Of Town", while the group chronicles their first-ever trip to Japan on "Midnight in Tokyo".Hang `Em High" has Y&T crossing the line from AOR to hard rock as they pump up the distortion, quicken up the riffs, and lay down some pounding drum beats. "Sentimental Fool" has a great melodic rock radio appeal to it, as the main arrangement is instant and catchy."Mean Streak" is a good representation of the rock music scene at the time as shows the incipient Melodic Rock / hard rock / hair metal wave to come & conquer the US market.

"In Rock We Trust" was the definitive breakthrough album for Y&T, becoming the band's highest charting album at the time, reaching No. 46 on the Billboard 200 and coming close to gold status the year of its release (it hits the mark later).Although Y&T never obtained the massive recognition they deserved, with this record the band reached audiences like never before; the wheels were certainly in motion for Meniketti and the guys. Not only was MTV playing their videos for "Lipstick and Leather" and "Don't Stop Runnin" but they were also the chief opening act for Twisted Sister."In Rock We Trust" is a great melodic hard rock album from beginning to end. Produced by the at the time en-vogue Englishman Tom Allom (Def Leppard, Krokus, Judas Priest) we have kickin' anthems on "Rock & Roll's Gonna Save the World" and especially "Break Out Tonight!", both top notch arena-ready monsters. While the aforementioned "Lipstick and Leather" and "Don't Stop Runnin" are very good songs, the lesser known "(Your Love Is) Driving Me Crazy" and "I'll Keep On Believin' (Do You Know)" are even better. As evidenced throughout the album, the heart and soul of Y&T was Dave Meniketti. One of the few lead vocalists in metal that doubled on lead guitar, he had a gift of throwing in tasty leads during the verses that gave the band's songs more punch.Other great tracks include the riff heavy "Masters and Slaves", the mid-tempo "Life, Life, Life", and the frantic "She's A Liar". Finally, the closing "This Time" is one of their best power ballads, something the band always had a knack for.

Line-Up:

Dave Meniketti – vocals, guitar
Joey Alves – guitar, vocals
Phil Kennemore – bass, vocals
Leonard Haze – drums, vocals

Tracklist:

CD1 - Mean Streak (1983)

01 - Mean Streak
02 - Straight Thru The Heart

07 - Take You To The Limit
08 - Sentimental Fool
09 - Down And Dirty

02 - Life, Life, Life
03 - Masters And Slaves
04 - I'll Keep On Believin' (Do You Know)
05 - Break Out Tonight!
06 - Lipstick And Leather

Y&T continues to tour the world, featuring Dave Meniketti (guitar/lead vocals), John Nymann (guitar/vocals), Brad Lang (bass/vocals), and Mike Vanderhule (drums/vocals), playing songs that span the band’s five-decade career and including all the hits and fan favorites. Prepare to have your face melted.

"Open Fire" was the first live for Y&T. And what a killer record. The live material was recorded at various locations earlier in the same year of release (1985) seeing Y&T at the peak of their popularity and solid, tight as band as never before. The performances are top notch and the recording quality was amongst the best during the '80s.Well, this fresh 2013 remastering has turned out this "Open Fire" even better, adding more punch to it but isn't overblown dynamically. It's a remarkably clear recording considering it was originally made over 25 years ago, and every instrument and vocals come crystal clear out of the speakers. You need to listen "Open Fire", seriously, it's a step ahead to many more famous records of this kind.

'Down For The Count' - Additionally, a selection of live tracks from Donnington and Reading festivals including previously unreleased material. From the the bunch, I have chosen Y&T's last recording for A&M, the criminally underrated "Down For The Count" (1986), a must have for any Melodic Rock / mid-'80s AOR fan.The album features Y&T's biggest hit "Summertime Girls", a keyboard driven catchy AOR song to die for, which charted at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song had initially appeared as the lone studio track on the band's previous live album, Open Fire. But all tracks into "Down For The Count" are great: the killer, scorching hard rock opener "In The Name Of Rock" about a young guitar player who broke through heck or high water, the AOR heaven of "Anytime At All" (with some Journey on it), the Melodic Rock gold of "Face Like An Angel", and one of my Y&T favorite songs ever: the bluesy and hot "Looks Like Trouble".There's more ass kickers on the melting "Don't Tell Me What To Wear" and "Anything For Money", and the mid-tempo AOR ballad "Hands Of Time" has an intensity few times seen in this type of songs.

Line-Up:

Dave Meniketti - vocals, guitar
Joey Alves - guitar, vocals
Phil Kennemore - bass, vocals
Leonard Haze - drums, percussion, cymbals
Randy Nichols, Claude Schnell - add. keyboards
John Nymann, Bill Costa - backing vocals

"Live On The Friday Rock Show" - Let's go then with the entitled "Live On The Friday Rock Show", this is the 'bonus album' from this Y&T box-set, offering recordings from the band's shows at the now legendary English festivals 'Reading' and 'Donington Park ; Monsters Of Rock'.While the Reading Festival performace was released on CD by a small label in limited quantities some time ago (but now out of print), the Donington Monsters Of Rock show was previously unreleased and it's exclusive to this Box.Both shows are well worth to listen, not only for fans of the band, but also by any hard rock aficionado out there. The passion, the musicality, the energy of Y&T on these shows were second to none, and are wonderfully immortalized on tape. The sound quality is truly good, perfectly mastered to maintain the stage rawness.

Album:

Rock Candy Records has just 'Remastered & Reloaded' the early '80s Y&T albums, for many, the band's finest moment. "Earthshaker" was Y&T's first album for A&M and the first under their current name, after changing it from Yesterday and Today used on the two prior records. This record changed everything for Meniketti & Co., with a polished production (yet still retaining a quite heavy sound) and full of radio-friendly hooks. The whole album standouts driven by hot riffs, even present on the ballsy power ballad "I Believe In You", a reference for just about every hair metal to come in the way of crafting their rock ballads."Earthshaker" stunned the hard rock world with its aggressive songs and production. It was a double whammy that breathed new life into the band’s profile, helping to re-establish them as real contenders after years spent hiding in the shadows on a label that offered little in the way of promotion or career advancement. In Europe, where the band had already enjoyed a cult following through imports of their previous two records, the news was embraced with open arms and word soon spread that the band were not only back but sounding bigger and better than ever.Recorded in their native San Francisco, the album harnessed a new raw energy, allowing songs such as ‘Hungry For Rock’, ‘Dirty Girl’, ‘Squeeze’ and ‘Hurricane’ to explode like molotov cocktails, whilst the epic and lengthy album closer, the aforementioned ‘I Believe In You’ showed that the band could write anthems equal to the best of the genre. It also showed just how masterful they had developed as musicians, especially Dave Meniketti’s extraordinary vocals. There's a previous remaster of "Earthshaker", very good in my opinion. This Rock Candy sonic treatment is equally fine, with a little more emphasis in the mid-frequencies and 'air' between instruments.Honestly, we can’t recommend this album highly enough.

Line-Up:

Dave Meniketti - Lead Guitar/Lead Vocals
Joey Alves - Guitar/Vocals
Phil Kennemore - Bass
Leonard Haze - Drums/Vocals

Tracklist:

01. Hungry for Rock
02. Dirty Girl

Album:

Rock Candy Records has just 'Remastered & Reloaded' the early '80s Y&T albums, for many, the band's finest moment. "Black Tiger" (in this reissue including a bonus track) the second Y&T record for A&M Records, was recorded at Ridge Farm, in Dorking, County of Surrey, England and produced by wizard Max Norman (Ozzy, Lynch Mob). The classic Y&T logo makes its first appearance on the cover on a record with rather diverse material including the typical uptempo Y&T hard rockers like "Open Fire" together with melodic rock killers such as "Don't Wanna Lose", a real gem of a tune.Title track is fast and furious, while the bass driven "Barroom Boogie" gives the album character and the captivating fan favourite "Forever" gives an example of a classic Y&T trademark rock."Hell or High Water" shows Y&T's ability to be slow & melodic but still groovy and heavy, and the closing "Winds of Change" is one of the band's best ballads. There's a previous remaster of Y&T's "Black Tiger", very good in my opinion. This Rock Candy sonic treatment is equally fine, with a little more emphasis in the mid-frequencies and 'air' between instruments.Regarded as one of, if not the definitive Y&T album from the band's early era, "Black Tiger" rocks.

Line-Up:

Dave Meniketti lead guitar, lead vocals

Leonard Haze drums, percussion

Album:

Rock Candy Records has just 'Remastered & Reloaded' the early '80s Y&T albums, for many, the band's finest moment. "Mean Streak" (in this reissue including a bonus track) was a gateway album for Y&T, and the one which made the group finally get noticed by American audiences. There's no mistaking that the opening riff to title "Mean Streak" represent the melodic (hard) rock music scene of the early Eighties, together with Night Ranger and alike. The band and the recording label secured respected studio wizard Chris Tsangarides (Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne) to produce "Mean Streak", another molten slice of face melting melodious rock in the finest Y&T tradition.Recorded in their native San Francisco, the record continued to enhance the band’s reputation as one of the most potent outfits of the era, delivering great songs and incredible performances.Produced & mixed with pin-point accuracy, the album resonates with explosive authority, harnessing razor sharp guitar riffs and impressive songs.Meniketti delivers his trademark melodic yet husky vocals reminiscent of Sammy Hagar & Ronnie Montrose. It should come as no surprise that Dave has collaborated with Ronnie many times.Tracks such as ‘Midnight In Tokyo’, ‘Hang ‘Em High’, ‘Down And Dirty’ and the title track itself are all Y&T classics, allowing Meniketti to ride the tiger with all his might. There's a killer riff on 'Straight Thru the Heart', while more of that great Y&T vocal harmony is present on my favorite 'Lonely Side Of Town', while the group chronicles their first-ever trip to Japan on "Midnight in Tokyo"."Hang `Em High" has Y&T crossing the line from AOR to hard rock as they pump up the distortion, quicken up the riffs, and lay down some pounding drum beats. "Sentimental Fool" has a great melodic rock radio appeal to it, as the main arrangement is instant and catchy. There's a previous remaster of Y&T's "Mean Streak", very good in my opinion. This Rock Candy sonic treatment is equally fine, with a little more emphasis in the mid-frequencies and 'air' between instruments, and on this particular one, brighter lead vocals."Mean Streak" was 'the album' that put Y&T on the US rock map, and if you love early album from Night Ranger, Foreigner and even Quiet Riot, this is a must have in your collection.

Line-Up:

Dave Meniketti – vocals, guitar
Joey Alves – guitar, vocals
Phil Kennemore – bass, vocals
Leonard Haze – drums, vocals

Tracklist:

01. Mean Streak 4:06
02. Straight Thru the Heart 4:14
03. Lonely Side of Town 4:48
04. Midnight in Tokyo 5:40
05. Breaking Away 4:42
06. Hang 'Em High 5:29
07. Take You to the Limit 4:57

Album:

Bay Area hard rock pioneers Y&T, who have been kicking around since the Seventies, are releasing their first acoustic album titled "Acoustic Classix Vol. 1". Still active and commanded by founder Dave Meniketti, Y&T are returning to their catalog to put a new spin on a few of their classics.Recorded in December 2017, the band has included classic Y&T songs on this first acoustic release, with a few songs you wouldn't expect to hear acoustically, each with a different spin. This is a very special release that gives Y&T fans a whole new way to enjoy these classic Y&T tunes. Before Mötley Crüe, before RATT, even before there was a Metallica, Y&T was slogging away in sweaty rock clubs around America. When the band formed in the 70s, little did they know they would set the standard for hard rock bands that trailed. Many of the biggest acts of the ’80s became popular opening for headliners Y&T — and cut their teeth on the band, as evidenced by the Y&T mentions in tell-all books by acts such as Metallica and Mötley Crüe.Born in Oakland, California, Y&T is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s own innovators of the hard rock sound. After two ’70s albums on London Records, they shortened their name to Y&T and released eight albums on A&M in the ’80s.Two more albums with Geffen Records marked an era of change with Jimmy DeGrasso (Alice Cooper, Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth) on drums and Stef Burns (Alice Cooper, Berlin, Huey Lewis) on guitar. With a discography of 18 albums, three greatest hits collections, plus a boxed set, Y&T has sold over four million albums since their 1974 inception.Y&T received extensive airplay with hits such as 'Forever', 'Rescue Me', 'Mean Streak', 'Don’t Stop Runnin’, and 'Summertime Girls' — which played in heavy rotation on MTV.Y&T songs have been featured in a multitude of movies and television shows, including Real Genius, Out of Bounds, Baywatch, and Hunter. After five top 100 albums, songs that tipped into the 40s, two Bammie Awards, and many international television appearances, Y&T’s hits are still played on VH1 Classic and classic rock radio stations worldwide. With Kennemore’s untimely passing from lung cancer, the band carries on the legacy that is Y&T.Y&T continues to tour the world, playing songs that span the band’s five-decade career and including all the hits and fan favorites. So this "Acoustic Classix Vol. 1" is a really welcomed release.Alongside classics such as 'Contagious', 'Summertime Girls' and 'Black Tiger', there's the fun 'Barroom Boogie', all re-done into an organic, acoustic shape. With the physical CD purchase you have as bonus a rare acoustic version of 'Hands Of Time ', plus a 5-track acoustic performance recorded Live At The Bone Studios for radio broadcast, taken from Y&T's vaults.

Album:

Titled ”Free To Roll”, this is a recording of Y&T show in Santa Barbara from 1985, done for FM broadcast as part of the famous King Biscuit Flower Hour. Of course it’s a bootleg, but the sound quality is very good, now enhanced for our listening pleasure. Be aware there’s versions floating the net but not the complete set and with noises / cuts. This is the real ”Free To Roll” just released. This show was the basis of Y&T’s ‘Open Fire’ live album, released later in the year. Y&T and was going from its longtime label home at A&M to the upstart high-brow label, Geffen, and the live disc was delivered to fulfill obligations. However this show recorded for KBFH features a different track-list. There’s Y&T classics like “Lipstick And Leather,” “Go For The Throat,” and “Summertime Girls”. They do offer a lengthy guitar solo followed by a 12-bar blues jam before closing with high energy versions of “Mean Streak” and “Black Tiger.” Y&T at their peak, pure Eighties US hard rock.
