Album:

Killing the Dragon is the ninth studio album by the American heavy metal band Dio. It was released May 21, 2002 through Spitfire Records and was produced by frontman Ronnie James Dio. The album was reissued in 2007 in a 2-CD package with Magica. In an interview on the TV show Uranium, Dio stated that the "dragon" of the album title refers to technology. He expressed concern with it threatening society in the future. Dio elaborated that the title track refers to "those who perpetrate injustices and what the world is doing to stop them. In fantasy tales, dragons were notorious for stealing children and feeding them to their babies. During the first part of the song, I sing 'Someone has taken a child.' The second part is about a cruel feudal lord. The third part is about 'electronic serfdom.'" He also expressed belief that the computer has become a god in modern society. "It is a small god with an electrical heart (...) It is time to rebel against it."Killing the Dragon introduces guitarist Doug Aldrich to the band. He had previously performed with Burning Rain and subsequently went on to join the band Whitesnake. Previous guitarist, Craig Goldy, co-wrote some of the songs before leaving the band. He returned for 2004's Master of the Moon. The song "Push" was a hit and had a music video that featured Tenacious D performing a humorous cover of Ronnie James Dio's biggest song from his time with Black Sabbath, "Heaven and Hell". Dio approaches them to tell them that he will pay them to play Tenacious D music. Apparently, according to an interview with Dio in 2005, during filming of this music video, Ronnie James Dio became friends with Tenacious D frontman Jack Black, who told Dio about his plans to make a Tenacious D film and asked him to perform in the film if anything became of it. In 2005, Dio received a letter from Black informing him that production of the film was starting and requested that he play himself. This film is Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. The video was directed by Bill Schacht (who has directed other videos for Alice Cooper, Amon Amarth, Sister Sin, Yngwie Malmsteen, Saxon, etc.) for Aestheticom. The video was listed as No. 54 most metal moment of all time on a VH1 100 Most Metal Moments show, hosted by Eddie Trunk. All lyrics by Ronnie James Dio, music as stated. The "Limited Tour Edition" came in a slipcase with poster and added two bonus tracks. These bonus tracks are Ronnie James Dio performing live with Deep Purple and first appeared on Deep Purple's 2001 album Live at the Rotterdam Ahoy.

Lee and Rowan Robertson. The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. The band has sold more than 10 million copies of albums worldwide.

Album:

Digitally remastered and expanded deluxe two CD edition of this 1983 album from the Metal maestro including bonus live recordings and B-sides plus an expanded booklet with notes by Malcolm Dome.Holy Diver is the debut album by American heavy metal band Dio, released in 1983. Vocalist Ronnie James Dio had just finished his first tenure in Black Sabbath, whose drummer Vinny Appice he took with him to put together his own band. The roster was completed by his former band mate in Rainbow Jimmy Bain on bass and by the young guitarist Vivian Campbell, coming from the NWOBHM band Sweet Savage. The album was acclaimed by the music press and is the most successful of the band.Released on May 25, 1983, the album has been hailed by critics as Dio's best work and a classic staple in the heavy metal genre. The album was certified Gold in the US on September 12, 1984, and Platinum on March 21, 1989.In the UK it attained Silver certification (60,000 units sold) by the British Phonographic Industry, achieving this in January 1986, at the same time as The Last in Line. The original vinyl release had a photo-montage LP-liner, with images from both Rainbow and Black Sabbath days. The album was remastered and re-released by Rock Candy Records in 2005. The only notable addition to the original album is an audio interview with Ronnie James Dio. Tracks 10-19 on the 2005 edition are Dio's answers to various questions about the album. The questions are not posed during the interview itself, but can be found inside the CD's booklet instead. The album, along with The Last in Line and Sacred Heart, were released in a new 2-CD Deluxe Edition on March 19, 2012 through Universal for worldwide distribution outside the U.S."Caught in the Middle" shares the main guitar riff with Campbell's previous band Sweet Savage's song "Straight Through the Heart" (1983).Album art:The cover features the band mascot, Murray spinning chains around waves where a man with a priest or minister's collar in chains is floating. Dio was quick to argue that appearances are misleading, that it could just as easily be a priest killing a devil, wanting people not to "judge a book by its cover".Murray is featured on several other Dio albums. When the "DIO" logo is viewed upside-down it can be interpreted as spelling either the word "DIE" or "DEVIL". Ronnie James Dio has called this purely coincidental. Album cover artwork is by artist Randy Berrett.Themes:Around the time of making the album, a rise of heroic adventure elements in popular culture (such as J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings books and role-playing games Dungeons & Dragons) were having influence. "Much of heavy metal took place on similar turf, a realm of dark towers and impenetrable wilderness populated by battles and adversity."When Ronnie James Dio had been with Black Sabbath, "He reverently refurbished and reinvented the band's stately doom with grandiose concepts...Dio found a fertile fantasy framework for the big Sabbath themes of madness and desolation".Dio, who had read Sir Walter Scott, Arthurian tales, and science fiction growing up, had previously used fantasy lyrics in his early 1970s band Elf.Dio explained to an interviewer that influenced by his youthful reading, "When I became a songwriter, I thought what better thing to do than do what no one else is doing...to tell fantasy tales. Smartest thing I ever did."The rock historian Ian Christe relates that for the post-Sabbath solo career "Dio simplified his stories substantially for a younger heavy metal audience. The 1983 debut Holy Diver, by his band Dio, reduced lush moral landscapes to simple good-versus-evil conflicts, using the lyrical duality of 'Rainbow in the Dark' and 'Holy Diver' to raise questions about deceit and hypocrisy in romance and religion. In the sharp contrasts of Dio's imagery, there was always a built-in contradiction that fed adolescent revolt: a black side to every white light, and a hidden secret behind every loud proclamation of truth. In a similar way, Dio's music balanced torrents of rage with brief acoustic interludes."Popular culture:"Holy Diver" is featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories on the radio station V-Rock. "Rainbow in the Dark" appears in Rock Band 3 and Rocksmith as DLC, and "Holy Diver" and "Stand Up and Shout" are featured as DLC for the series as a whole. It is also featured in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s and Rocksmith. A short excerpt of the song Holy Diver also plays twice in a third-season episode of South Park, "Hooked on Monkey Phonics″.AllMusic reviewer Eduardo Rivadavia praised the album, stating that "aside from Ronnie's unquestionably stellar songwriting, Holy Diver's stunning quality and consistency owed much to his carefully chosen bandmates, including powerhouse drummer and fellow [Black] Sabbath survivor Vinny Appice, veteran bassist Jimmy Bain, and a phenomenal find in young Irish guitarist Vivian Campbell, whose tastefully pyrotechnic leads helped make this the definitive Dio lineup. Holy Diver remains the undisputed highlight of Dio's career...and, indeed, one of the finest pure heavy metal albums of the 1980s."Canadian reviewer Martin Popoff describes the album as "quintessential traditional metal", with Ronnie James Dio "almost single-handedly reinventing gothic hard rock for the '80s, incorporating strong melodic hooks and more than the genre's usual share of velvety, classical-based pyrotechnics."Kerrang! gave the album a positive review in 1983 and Holy Diver ended up at no. 5 in the British magazine's End of Year list of best releases.Today, Kerrang! still considers it a "perfect melodic metal album" and an "essential purchase".On IGN's list of "Top 25 Metal Albums", Holy Diver is at number 8, and this statement followed, "In all his bands, in all his roles, in all his musical vagabond choices, Ronnie James Dio has been fortunate enough to be associated with some of heavy metal's best -- Sabbath, Rainbow, and his own band Dio. To best represent his tenure in the genre, one must look no farther than Holy Diver. His first album with his new band was also his best. It is one of metal's best albums, and it spawned two of the greatest metal songs of the '80s: 'Holy Diver' and 'Rainbow in the Dark'. Featuring the underrated Vivian Campbell on guitar, this album showed that Dio could do it on his own."All lyrics written by Ronnie James Dio, music as stated.

It was released in August 15, 1985 on Warner Bros. Records. The record peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 chart. It is one of Dio's most well-known albums, and includes singles such as "Sacred Heart", "Rock 'n' Roll Children" and "Hungry for Heaven".This was the last Dio album to include guitarist Vivian Campbell, who was fired midway through the album's tour. Campbell went on to join several other bands, most notably Def Leppard, Riverdogs, Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy. A rift occurred during the recording of this album between Dio and the guitarist - "..for me, he (Viv) wasn't even there for this record."The album, along with Holy Diver and The Last in Line, was released in a new 2-CD Deluxe Edition on March 19, 2012 through Universal for worldwide distribution outside the U.S.The accompanying stageshow was a spectacle involving a mechanised dragon and laser effects, as captured on the VHS (and later DVD reissue) Sacred Heart "The Video". Ronnie James Dio and his band referred to the dragon as Denzil (although originally it was called Dean). The cover art is by Robert Florczak. The inscription around the border of the cover is in Latin and reads FINIS PER SOMNIVM REPERIO TIBI SACRA COR VENEFICVS OSTIVM AVRVM. A possible rendering is Along the borders of dreams I found for you the sacred poisonous heart and golden door. More data useful for the interpretation could be contained within the lyrics to the song "Sacred Heart". Since Latin relies on context for a translation the inscription could translate as follows, "comes the end by sleep I will prepare the sacred heart which is the magic that opens upon the altar"

Album:

Finding The Sacred Heart Live In Philly 1986 was recorded at The Spectrum in Philadelphia on June 17th 1986 during the second leg of the Sacred Heart tour, which featured new guitarist Craig Goldy. The show was issued in an edited form first on VHS and then DVD. Now for the first time the full concert is being released as a double CD in the original running order and with remastered sound. It's an extraordinary live show with a giant animatronic dragon towering over the stage and spectacular lasers and pyrotechnics. Ronnie James Dio is in fine voice as ever and the band deliver a blistering live performance featuring tracks from their first three albums alongside Black Sabbath and Rainbow classics. This will be a must-have release for any Dio fan! The King of Rock and Roll rolled into Philly with a new axeman. Vivian Campbell bitterly departed and was replaced by Craig Goldy of Ruff Cutt. Goldy had a flashier style, a bit heavier on the shred. The Sacred Heart tour was a big deal, and I can distinctly remember seeing TV ads for the Toronto show. They had their big dragon on stage, a crystal ball, and Accept as the opening act. The Philly gig was filmed, and so today we have this double live album to enjoy. As it did on Sacred Heart, “King of Rock and Roll” opened the set with a flurry of speed. Another newbie, “Like the Beat of a Heart” goes over well with an extended solo by Goldy including a nod to Blackmore. “Don’t Talk to Strangers” is the first Dio classic in the set, though “Hungry for Heaven” was a top 30 single.Dio had so much material to play (including his past with Rainbow and Black Sabbath) that a lot of the biggest songs are jammed into medleys. “The Last in Line”, “Children of the Sea” and “Holy Diver” are truncated into eight minutes. “Rock ‘N’ Roll Children” is joined with the Rainbow classics “Love Live Rock ‘N’ Roll” and “Man on the Silver Mountain”. It seems a shame that there are guitar solos, a drum solo, and even a keyboard solo, but all these classics had to be crammed together into medleys. “Heaven and Hell” is complete at least, but Claude Schnell’s keyboards sound out of place on this Sabbath cornerstone.1986 was one of many prime periods for Dio. Your perception of this CD set will largely hinge on how much you like Craig Goldy vs. Vivian Campbell. Goldy was a fine replacement though his shredding often sounds like a green kid just going for it. There is plenty of great Dio material to enjoy, all killer no filler from start to finish…solos aside that is. There’s even a live version of the smooth “Time to Burn”, the first new song with Goldy from the Intermission EP.There is a nice selection of live Dio available on the market. Finding the Sacred Heart would be a great choice for most, but if you want Dio live with Vivian Campbell, probably best to go for the Donington 1983 & 1987 set. This one certainly sounds excellent, it’s a beautiful recording and mix.

Album:

Magica is the eighth studio album by American heavy metal band Dio. A concept album, it was produced by frontman Ronnie James Dio and released on March 21, 2000, through Spitfire Records. The album marks the return of guitarist Craig Goldy, who also has performed on Dio's album Dream Evil and in the later release Master of the Moon. Magica also features Jimmy Bain on bass and Simon Wright on drums. The album was originally planned to be the first part of a trilogy of concept albums. Shortly before beginning his tour with Heaven & Hell, Dio announced his intention to start the Magica II & III album after the tour's end, but he died shortly after of stomach cancer on May 16, 2010. The only song released from Magica II & III was titled "Electra".On April 15, 2013, Niji announced that a deluxe two-disc version of Magica would be released on June 25, 2013. The first disc is identical to the original North American release (though it is remastered by Wyn Davis), but the narration track "The Magica Story" is moved to the second disc. The instrumental "Annica" (originally a Japan-only bonus track) is also on the second disc, as well as "Electra", and six "Official Live Bootleg" (live recordings of Magica tracks). The "Official Live Bootleg" songs were recorded between 2000 and 2002, at various dates on the Magica and Killing the Dragon tours. "Turn to Stone" was announced on the official press release for the deluxe edition, issued by Niji Entertainment Group, but was eventually omitted from the album, for unknown reasons.

Album:

Ronnie James DIO would have turned 80 years old on July 10. Among the greatest heavy metal singers of all time, Dio’s career spanned five decades, touched millions of fans and pioneered his signature “devil’s horns,” one of the most popular hand gestures in the world. Dio also provided vocals and lyrics for some of the most iconic rock albums of all time with Black Sabbath and Rainbow, before establishing his own band Dio as a metal force with their 1983 debut ”Holy Diver”.Rhino Records revisits this epic metal moment on “HOLY DIVER: SUPER DELUXE EDITION“, a four-CD box set including a new remaster, an unreleased concert, a CD of rarities / unreleased, and a disc including a new remix of the LP.This is all awesome, the new remix, the new remaster, the unreleased live, and the collectible bonus CD of rare DIO stuff. Long Live the King!”Holy Diver (Joe Barresi Remix)” has been remixed by engineer Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot) taking as source the original master tapes. Cover art is also new done by longtime Dio artist, Marc Sasso. The results? In our opinion are excellent. With this 2022 remix ‘Holy Diver’ has been benefited by a rich, defined sound of the whole instrumentation in the mid-range of the sonic spectrum, and Ronnie’s vocals are clearer – something like ‘floating’ into your ears.Wendy Dio said about the reasoning behind this Holy Diver new remix: “We were just — Rhino and myself — were thinking that it would be nice to re-release it with a newly remixed version. And I went through lots of different producers and thinking who would make a good job of it for Ronnie and bring it a bit more modern. So we picked Joe Barresi, who’s done lots of stuff with Tool, Queens of the Stone Age and so on. And he was quite reluctant in the beginning to do it because he said, ‘Oh, I can’t improve on what Ronnie did.’ And I said, ‘Well, it’s not really to improve on it. It’s just to make it a little bit different and to bring it up to today’s standards.’And so he did it, and I’m very pleased. I think he did an absolutely amazing job with it.””Holy Diver (Joe Barresi Remix)” sounds great. And there’s something we like a lot: there are no end fades in 6 tracks, all end as they were originally recorded, the band properly finishing the songs.Barresi unearths outros that were initially lost to the album’s deeply ’80s fade-outs, providing a small behind-the-scenes glimpse of the sessions, and this is a must listen for fans of this incredible album. On CD 2 the new 2022 remaster sounds much better than the previous available, offering a beefier listen without sacrificing the character of the original recording. It’s fuller in the deep end of the sonic spectrum.HOLY DIVER: SUPER DELUXE EDITION goes beyond the original album with a previously unreleased recording of the quartet performing live in 1983 at Selland Arena in Fresno, California during the Holy Diver Tour.On CD3, Wyn Davis mixed the concert recording, which spotlights live versions of songs from Holy Diver (“Stand Up And Shout” and “Rainbow In The Dark”), Rainbow classics (“Man On The Silver Mountain” and “Starstruck”), and Sabbath staples, (“Children Of The Sea” and “Heaven And Hell.”) The Box Set, on CD4 also revisits the ‘Holy Diver’ recording sessions to uncover unreleased outtakes for several album cuts, including unheard takes for “Invisible,” “Straight Through The Heart,” and a version of “Rainbow In The Dark” that boasts an alternative guitar solo. There’s also an early version of “Evil Eyes,” a song that would resurface on Dio’s 1984 follow-up album, The Last in Line.A selection of rarities rounds out the new collection with a radio-mono and stereo 7” single edits for “Rainbow In The Dark” and a version of “Evil Eyes” that was released in 1983 as the B-side to “Holy Diver.” Dio’s “HOLY DIVER: SUPER DELUXE EDITION” is a ‘holy grail’ for ’80s metal / hard rock aficionados…

Bio:

Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio, after he left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath member, drummer Vinny Appice. The name Dio was chosen because it made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well known at that time. The band released ten studio albums and had numerous line-up changes over the years with Ronnie James Dio having been the only constant member. Guitarists have included Craig Goldy (most recent guitarist), Doug Aldrich, Vivian Campbell, Warren DeMartini Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson. The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. The band has sold more than 10 million copies of albums worldwide.

Album:

BMG and Niji Entertainment Group Inc. have partnered to issue Limited Edition Deluxe CD & LP box sets of Ronnie James Dio’s final 4 studio albums on September 22nd. Titled ”DIO – The Studio Albums: 1996-2004”, the set include Angry Machines (1996), Magica (2000), Killing The Dragon (2002), and Master of The Moon (2004).Wendy Dio says, “I am very excited to be working with BMG, a label that still has a passion for rock music. They will be making the complete Dio catalogue available again with some interesting surprises.”Each of the four albums on offer here have been remastered housed in a sideloading box with newly created artwork especially designed for the box-set release.“DIO The Studio Album Collection: 1996 – 2004” kicks off with ‘Angry Machines’. Recorded in 1996, the album features Tracy G on guitars, ex Dokken Jeff Pilson on bass, skin basher Vinny Appice and Scott Warren on keyboards.‘Angry Machines’ is a strange entry in the Dio canon, with the band seemingly unsure of how to proceed against the commercial onslaught of grunge. Although the album boasts a number of cracking tracks, it remains a divisive among fans. That said, Angry Machines starts very well indeed. Kicking off with the pummelling Institutional Man, Dio typically gives his all as his band lay down a series of punishing riffs. With a superlative performance from Appice just as he was out the door, Institutional Man is a bruising start to an album that doesn’t quite manage to maintain such intensity. On the plus side, the first few tracks continue to impress. You have the rolling drum thunder of Don’t Tell The Kids, and the slow-paced Hunter Of The Heart, both tracks that suggest Angry Machines has a great deal to offer. In contrast, the lengthy Stay Out Of Mind initially recalls early Soundgarden with its minor key guitars, the keyboard passage that haunts the mid section remains one of the album’s more questionable decisions. Of course, Dio is one of the few singers out there who could comfortably stand shoulder to shoulder with the late, great Chris Cornell, and the first four minutes of Stay Out Of Mind are classic Dio, but the track is in dire need of editing. With a completely new line-up (including guitarist Craig Goldy, returning from Dream Evil), and licking his wounds in the wake of Angry machines, Dio unleashed Magica, a bold concept record that returned to the more mythical trappings of his early career. Written from the villain’s perspective, Magica was originally planned to be the first part of an epic trilogy (tragically cut short by Dio’s death in 2010), and the conceptual framework reinvigorated Dio, who delivers a performance of confidence and power.Setting the scene, the short, spoken-word Discovery and the orchestral bombast of Magica Theme pave the way for the mid-tempo metal of Lord Of The Last Day, which gets the album proper underway. Then Fever Dreams is a cracking track in the vein of Holy Diver, it sees the band find their footing, marching in lockstep for the rest of the record. Next up, Turn To Stone sees Craig explore a bluesier side to his guitar playing, reminiscent of Gilmour’s work on Momentary Lapse Of Reason, before leading the band into the chugging main body of the song. It’s the sort of thing Dio could produce in his sleep, but it’s elevated by the voice of the man himself.A short, spoken-word intro paves the way for the dark, dirty Feed My Head, an album highlight that is, somehow, eclipsed by the symphonic majesty of Eriel, which features some glorious guitar work, cinematic strings and a structure reminiscent of Operation Mindcrime.Kicking off the second half, Simon Wright’s gargantuan drums announce the slab of road rock that is Challis and, if obligatory ballad As Long As it’s Not About Love ultimately feels overegged, it still offers a wonderful opportunity to hear that voice set against a more stripped-down arrangement than found elsewhere on the album.Losing My insanity proves to be classic Dio, as does the prowling Otherworld – one last dose of classic metal before Magica and Lord Of The Last Day are treated to short reprises, rounding out the album (the Magica Story proving absent here). There is, however, the 7″ offering the set’s only bonus cut. Electra was the last song to be recorded by Dio’s band before his death and, although it’s a belting track, it’s also a painful reminder of what was lost on May 16th, 2010. It’s a worthy addition, but you can’t help but wish they’d been more generous with the extras given just how much material there is out there. On Magica Dio sounds invigorated by the conceptual framework and fantastic narrative, and his band more than step up to the plate to meet his demands. The resultant album is hugely enjoyable, with the only tragedy being that Dio never got to finish the proposed trilogy.Keeping Jimmy Bain (bass) and Simon Wright (drums) from the previous album, Dio appointed Doug Aldritch (Whitesnake) as the new guitarist for 2002’s Killing The Dragon. With Magica having clearly refocused Dio and his band, Killing The Dragon has a tough, metallic sound that harks back to Holy Diver, and the title track gets the album off to a cracking start. Aldritch’s solo, rendered with great clarity within the mix, is something of a showstopper, announcing his presence with considerable, foot-on-the-monitor flourish.Keeping the pace taught, Along Came A Spider makes good use of Aldritch’s Whitesnake experience, with a bluesier touch augmenting the heavy metal thunder, whilst Dio delivers his vocal with all the power and authority he can muster. It’s a powerful opening that Killing The Dragon offers, make no mistake, and if such classic metal posturing was not entirely in vogue in 2002, it has certainly found its time now.By the time the lengthy Scream comes into view, it’s clear that Dio and his band have hit their stride – it boasts a strong riff, a typically blistering vocal from Dio, and an addictive melody. The monstrous ebb and flow of Rock And Roll, with its delicate acoustic introduction and echoes of Kashmir, more than makes up for it, as Dio pays tribute to his life-long muse. It’s an album highlight and, although Push was the album’s hit, it’s neither as worthy as Rock And Roll nor Scream, suggesting that Spitfire Records were not entirely on the ball when it came to promoting the record.Another fine track emerges next, with the slow-paced doom of Guilty, a song that serves as a precursor to the sound that Dio would craft with Heaven and Hell just a few years later. Next up, eerie synths and thunderous drums open the dark-hearted Throw Away Children, a suitably apocalyptic piece over which Dio provides a towering vocal. Even the addition of a children’s choir at the conclusion (usually a recipe for disaster) fails to derail things, the subtle mix meaning that it actually makes the track unnerving rather than syrupy. The pace picks up on the surging, Deep Purple-esque Before The Fall, and then Cold Feet rounds the album out.Killing The Dragon got a lukewarm reception upon its release, and it’s a worthy addition to any Dio collection. The final album in this set, Master Of The Moon sees another line-up shift with Craig Goldy (guitars) returning from the Magica line-up, and Jeff Pilson (bass) returning for his first album with Dio since Angry Machines. The last studio album recorded under Dio’s own name, Masters Of The Moon is another LP that seemed to suffer at the hands of the media, primarily because traditional heavy metal had fallen out of favour a touch back in 2004, but there’s a grit to the performance that deserved better.Right from the start, with the whip-crack of One More For The Road, Dio and his band sound fired up and combative. Even better is the title track, a metallic beast with huge, doom-laden riffs and a typically compelling vocal.Built around a surprising, AC/DC-esque riff, The End Of The World has a bluesy swagger to it, while the chugging Shivers is a track that hits a headbanger’s dream of a groove towards its conclusion, with only the decision to fade the track down a minor disappointment.Scott Warren (keyboards) comes into his own on The Man Who Would Be King, an initially mournful piece that goes on to recall Deep Purple / Rainbow at their heaviest by its conclusion. An album highlight is the strange, keyboard-washed doom of The Eyes, a track that sees Dio experimenting with his core sound and delivering a strong piece in the process. The fast-paced Living The Lie is classic Dio, although I Am is rather more pedestrian, despite a convincing vocal performance.Death By Love, however, is a belter and Craig Goldy delivers one hell of a solo, more than making up for its lacklustre predecessor. The quality remains high to the very end and In Dreams concludes the album in fine style, bringing both it, and this box set to a strong close.Master Of The Moon is an underrated album in Dio’s cannon and is ripe for reassessment. Most of the songs are pretty much classic Dio, with Shivers, The Eyes, and Death By Love all standing out as particular highlights. If you had lost your faith by 2004, head back and see what you missed, Dio was firing on all cylinders throughout this unsung period of his career.
