IBio:

220 Volt is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in 1979 by guitar players Thomas Drevin and Mats Karlsson. The band released albums on the CBS Records and Epic Records labels.220 Volt changed styles from heavy metal to hard rock after their third album.Formed during a mini golf game when Karlsson's ball went far off, was thrown back by Drevin who in doing so also injured Karlsson's hand. This led to a conversation, which soon centered about their common more metallic interests. The band started to play nation-wide in 1980, entered the studio for the first time in '82 and followed it up with supporting Heavy Load. The group gained more and more momentum until 1985 when all band members except Peter Olander had to do military service. Back together the group only lasted until 1992 when some members went on under the name of Voltergeist. The release of Lethal Illusion in 1997 sparked an interest for a reunion, which came true in 2002. Later, the band became dormant in 2008. In 2009 the band reformed occasionally and re-recorded the single "Heavy Christmas" for its 25th anniversary with storic singer Jocke Lundholm. In January 2013 the band returned with a new lineup.

Album:

Swedes 220 VOLT released three quite good albums at the '80s, with a classic Euro metal sound similar to the first Europe. But in the middle of the decade, their recording label saw a strong potential in 220 Volt to be launched on the prosperous American market. So the band decided to re-work their sound into a marvelous, Scandinavian-style Melodic Hard Rock."Eye To Eye" was the result, and believe me, if you never heard this album you're missing something great. With the extremely talented Max Norman (Ozzy, Coney Hatch, Y&T) producing, mixing and engineering, 220 Volt obtained a punchy, glossy, awesome polished sound ready to conquer the world.Released in Europe in 1988 "Eye To Eye" was pretty successful, with its consequent US / Canada edition the following year (actually there were few months in between) and different artwork. What can I say about the songs... all are killer, prime Melodic Hard Rock numbers. One of the highlights opens the album in the form of the moving "The Harder They Come", followed by another blast in "I'm On Fire".A favorite of mine is the AORish "Beat Of A Heart" with some Def Leppard on it, and then title track is one of the more elaborated MHR tunes ever produced by the band with a Treat / Return feel and a terrific chorus.Next, "Love Is All You Need" is a golden Scandi mid-tempo AOR power ballad with ethereal keys and skyscraper vocals. If these initial monster 5 songs does not hit you, you don't like this musical genre. Those are what '80s Melodic Hard Rock is all about.More quality follow with the catchy "Live It Up", 220 Volt show some of their Euro metal past on the heavier (but melodic) "Dog Eat Dog", while the pretty Americanized "Dangerous" brings to mind Ratt and alike. Then arrives another absolute highlight: "Still In Love", one of the best '80s ballad ever created and criminally ignored on every 'best of' ballad list. It's elegant, melodic, plenty of harmonics and a pristine production."On The Other Side" is a cool rocker only appeared in the American release, hence, it's very 'Californian' with hair metal choruses all over. The gem that is "Eye To Eye" needed a remastering, and it happened in 2003 with this now out of print, limited release by US label Power Play Records (officially licensed by Sony Music). The remastering is excellent, fuller and balanced. The reissue features 2 exclusive bonus tracks; the really worthy melodic hard rocker "Criminal" pumped by a huge rhythm section and driven by great guitars, and a remix of the diamond "Still In Love".It's a shame this remastered reissue is deleted now, as the album has become extremely hard to find. The only thing I do not like it's the re-vamped artwork that does not reflects the melodious music packed inside. I prefer the much better original European cover."Eye To Eye" is an awesome record, a must have in your Melodic Hard Rock / AOR collection.

220 Volt is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in 1979 by guitar players Thomas Drevin and Mats Karlsson. The band released albums on the CBS Records and Epic Records labels.

Album:

Swedish hard rock act 220 Volt returns to the scene with a new album called »Walking In Starlight«. Anders Engberg (ex-Therion ex-Lions Share), who joined this group on late 2012, is the new voice of the band. This is his first full album with 220 Volt. Founding members Thomas Drevin and Mats Karlsson handle the guitars, and drummer Peter Hermansson completes the line-up.220 Volt (founded 1979) was among the top hard rock acts in Scandinavia during the 80‘s and released their first, self titled album on CBS in June 1983. The band then went on to release five albums between 1983 - 1988. The last one recorded in the 80‘s was the album Eye to Eye which is their best selling album internationally, and it was also on heavy rotation on MTV and many radio stations around the world. It was produced by legendary producer Max Norman (Ozzy / Megadeth / Y&T etc..) and who also has mixed 5 tracks for »Walking In Starlight«.The band’s reputation was built on frequent album releases and energetic live shows. Besides performing their own headline shows, the Swedes have also toured as support for AC/DC and Nazareth among others. In 1985, 220 Volt performed in front of 80.000 people in Warsaw, Poland. The show was broadcasted live on Polish TV, among the first ever TVshows in the eastern block to feature a hard rock band.220 Volt split up in 1992, but released the studio album Lethal Illusion in 1997.The quartet was active for a while between 2002-2008 with members from an earlier line-up and produced two albums, »Volume 1« and the live album »Made in Jamtland«.Songs like »Firefall«, »Love Is All You Need«, »Beat Of A Heart«, »The Harder They Come«, »Heavy X-mas« and »Power Games« to name a few, still get airplay around the world... 220 Volt is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in 1979 by guitar players Thomas Drevin and Mats Karlsson. 220 Volt is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in 1979 by guitar players Thomas Drevin and Mats Karlsson. The band released albums on the CBS Records and Epic Records labels. The band's career began in 1979, but began to flow when they released the first single "Prisoner Of War" in 1982. When a radio station in New Jersey played the single it soon became one of the most wanted songs, the record company CBS then offered them a record contract. The first "220 Volt" disc was released in 1983 and it sold around 10,000 copies only in Sweden alone. In addition to Sweden, the band has been very popular in Japan, Germany and the United States. In 1984, the band performed with Nazareth (12 concerts) and 1986 with AC / DC (7 concerts). These gigs increased the bands popularity. In 1992, the 220 volt disbanded, but in 2002, the band was reunited with the same lineup as on their first single. They organized popular concerts both in Jämtland and elsewhere in Sweden. Volume 1 was the first recording released in the 2000s, it contains both new material and parts of a concert from Sweden Rock 2002. The printed edition was only made in 1000 copies, but is available on iTunes. In 2005, the band released its first live-in "Made in Jämtland" recorded during a number of concerts in just Jämtland. At the end of 2008, drummer Peter Hermansson stopped and no permanent substitute has been announced. In 2009, the band recorded a new EP with new versions of the popular "Heavy Christmas" and 3 other songs. Singer Jocke Lundholm returned for this recording and the band also borrowed drummer Björn Höglund from Hoven Droven. The album was released under the title Heavy Christmas - Revisited.

Album:

Originally released via AOR Heaven Records some time ago, "Walking In Starlight" is 220 VOLT comeback album after 13 years of studio silence. Now the band has a new label, and are re-releasing the album 2018 plus a previously unreleased track and a new song (from the upcoming album) featuring new vocalist Göran Nyström.I still remember clearly in the very early '80s, I was in my school time when I have just discovered the Scandinavian metal / hard rock movement with illustrious bands such as 220 VOLT, Pretty Maids, Fate, TNT and later Europe or Treat and obviously the mighty Yngwie's Rising Force.Since the beginning I was hooked by this sound, their unique and incomparable melodic styling was a revelation, this Nordic wave was everything to me as a young Headbanger it quite rapidly changed my life forever…On "Walking In Starlight" the band play superbly and their Swedish singularity is still prominent and addictive. Even more; their versatility is exacerbated, and it’s really impressive how they manage to preserve their melodic personality even while switching from Classic Hard Rock to modernized Melodic Metal (like the epic 'Through The Wastelands') with a great constancy in an obvious finesse. The title track and album opener is a real burning slice of Scandinavian Melodic Hard Rock with a fierce attitude and a superb construction in a highly bombastic method, at the same time majestic and attractive, something like House Of Lords meets Rainbow, yep believe me, it’s this kind of noble anthemic song.'Get Me Out' or 'Blind' contains a serious dose of convincing riffage under a contemporary rumbling mania, indeed not far from Lions Share style, while the energetic 'System Overload' sounds like the best of Europe‘s equivalence in their mid '90’s Prisoners In Paradise era.Perhaps with 'Alive' they add to this recipe a slight Saxon overtone, still magnificent on the softer side: 'Stranded', 'One Good Reason' or 'Take A Good Look' are pure classic hard rock with a Whitesnake / Thunder feeling. The reminiscence of the old 220 Volt AOR colors are founded in the title 'Burning Heart' and also in the chorus of the keyboard driven 'Broken Promises' even if the band provides a darkest tint to this cut.The orchestrated number 'Guiding Light' with it’s amazing string quartet arrangement is once again in obvious concordance with Tempest & Co. in their most acoustic moments. This reissue includes two bonus tracks; one is the strangely sub-titled 'The Harder They Come (2013 rehearsal version)'. I mean, this is a re-recording of the band's 1988 track appeared into their killer album 'Eye To Eye', but not a 'rehearsal version' at all. It's fully produced, and a great melodic hard rock tune. The other bonus is the new song 'Fair Enough', recorded with the new vocalist and a taste from the upcoming album in the making. With "Walking In Starlight" 220 VOLT returned with another great album. All the lights are set on green to predict a triumph, all the ingredients are improved in their best perfection, they even succeed in outmatching themselves and their glorious past by reaching an unexpected level of excellency under an hyper catchy songwriting method. The main feature of "Walking In The Starlight" is the surprising variety of styles the band draws from, be it melodic hard rock similar to their early efforts, contemporary straight-in-your-face hard rock or some light shades of blues.
