Bio:

Jetboy is an American San Francisco-based hard rock band founded in 1983 by guitarists Billy Rowe and Fernie Rod. Best described as a blend of edgy rock and roll with a traditional blues based influence. Jetboy got the attention of music fans and record executives alike in Hollywood during the mid 1980s. The band transplanted themselves to Los Angeles in 1986 after signing a deal with Elektra Records. Their musical influences ranged from punk rock to rock 'n' roll to blues. Their 1988 debut album Feel the Shake peaked at 135 on The Billboard 200.After parting ways with original bass player Todd Crew in mid-1987, the band was joined by former Hanoi Rocks member Sami Yaffa. Yaffa, a member of one of the groups Jetboy had found most influential, was now a member of the band as their new bassist. In August of 1987 Todd Crew died due to a drug overdose in the hotel room of Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash. Jetboy continued on into the 1990s before disbanding in 1992. However, over a decade later, Jetboy reconvened, toured and recorded a new EP, Off Your Rocker in 2010. Having been absent from the studio for some 20 years, Jetboy recorded Off Your Rocker in a fully organic mode. The band played all in the same room together in a “live-style” format in an effort to duplicate the way the songs were written, all together, in a true 1970’s fashion where the band could feed off of one another’s energy.Jetboy has continued to gain in popularity, and has continuously played to large crowds at festivals across the United States including Rocklahoma, The South Texas Rock Fest, Rock the Bayou & The M3 Festival two times. On June 1st 2012 Jetboy did a 25-year reunion for their debut album ‘Feel The Shake’ at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood. The show was also a release party for the movie Rock Of Ages which featured a few images of Jetboy. The line-up for this show included all original members with a surprise appearance by their second bass player Sami Yaffa who is currently playing in the Michael Monroe Band. This was the first time they all shared the stage together in over 20 years. Jetboy plan to continue with the original line-up with Charles Norman on bass who replaced Yaffa for the Damnednation tour in 1989.January 25th 2014 during NAMM weekend Jetboy supported Faster Pussycat at the Whisky A Go-Go to a sold out crowd to celebrate the club's 50-year anniversary.Jetboy geared up in late 2015 to bring their style of rock n roll to the stage again. The band performed at Riki Rachtman's Cathouse Live on August 15th 2015 at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater in Irvine, California.Three songs from Feel the Shake were featured in the 1989 movie The 'Burbs, starring Tom Hanks. They were "Bloodstone", "Locked in a Cage" and "Make Some Noise". Additionally, two songs from Feel the Shake, "Feel the Shake" and "Make Some Noise" were also featured in the 1989 movie She's Out of Control.

Album:

Damned Nation is the second album of the Jetboy Sleaze / Glam metal band, released in 1990 for the record label MCA Records.Occasionally, I will listen to a CD and get completely frustrated. In the case of Jetboy’s “Damned Nation”, my frustration is with the record label (MCA) not Jetboy, or this CD.“Damned Nation” is the CD that should have taken Jetboy’s career to the next level. While “Damned Nation” may not be as classic as say, Guns N’ Roses “Appetite for Destruction”, it is easily Jetboy’s best offering. If more fans would have heard this disc back when it was released in the day, Jetboy would have been more of a household name than a mere footnote in the world of hard rock.I have been a fan of Jetboy since their debut CD from the 80’s, but “Damned Nation” is the disc I still play the most. With awesome cuts like Stomp It (Down To the Bricks), Moonlight and Heavy Chevy, this CD will likely appeal to fans of bands RRRsmall5coming out of the Sunset Strip in the mid eighties such as L.A. Guns and Faster Pussycat. There is also a really cool guest appears by Michael Monroe (Hanoi Rocks) who plays saxophone on the tune “Rock N’ Roller”.Jetboy’s mixture of glam and punk was very well done, and they should have hit a homerun with “Damned Nation”. Jetboy never got the proper support from their label and instead of “Damned Nation” propelling the band to superstar status, the lack of label support for this disc eventually led to their demise. Thank the rock gods that the band has gotten back together again once more!

Album:

French reissue label Bad Reputation has been doing a great job releasing 'Collector Series / Remastered with Bonus', with the main attraction being the addition of a bonus tracks or bonus disc, making these reissues the 'definitive expanded versions'.Requested by one of you, here's the remastered reissue of JETBOY's "Damned Nation [Bad Reputation remaster +7]" including seven collectible bonus tracks. After their sleazy punky debut album, Jetboy changed the musical approach according to times; for the band's second album "Damned Nation" the group fit the 1990 production sound to polished, melodic hard rockers with catchy choruses. While many listeners doesn't like the gritty attack of Jetboy's first album - and their new 2019 CD as well - these should check out "Damned Nation".This album will appeal melodic hard rockers and traditional hard rock fans as well, because it's closer to Poison / Britny Fox shiny melodies and the 'more mature' Guns N' Roses stuff of their Use Your Illusion era.Opener 'Stomp It (Down To The Bricks)' start the CD with definite hair metal bounce, pumping bass lines, and clean guitars / vocals. While driven by crunchy riffs, 'Moonlight' is very melodic and catchy, and you can tell this is a 'new' Jetboy.Part of this new approach must be credited to Duane Baron & John Purdell production job. Both previously worked in King Kobra, Quiet Riot, Night Ranger and Motley Crue's 'Girls Girls Girls' (among others) productions, so this give an idea on the sound provided to "Damned Nation".'Heavy Chevy' is heavy and punchy yet always melodious, a song titled 'Evil' may feel aggressive but it's a hairy melodic rocker, then 'Ready To Rumble' makes you think about Kix's catchiness.Of course there's a power ballad as well, 'Too Late', some kind of a mix between Poison and Warrant. This Bad Reputation remaster sounds great, adding 7 bonuses in a really good quality sound in the form of 'High Gear' and the killer 'Suicidal Shakedown' (think commercial LA Guns) and a lovely cover of KISS' staple 'Hard Luck Woman'.Even the demo versions - including a quite different take on 'Heavy Chevy' - sound great, pre-production quality. If you usually pass Jetboy's music, you better listen to "Damned Nation [Bad Reputation remaster +7]", a very, very good piece of US Melodic Hard Rock made 1990.

Album:

San Francisco-based '80s hard rockers JETBOY have released a new European Edition of "Off Your Rocker !" with a bonus track via City Of Light Records, their new label in the old continent.Jetboy rocked America during the Eighties with two cult albums and played tons of concerts and festivals with the likes of Twisted Sister, Warrant, Ratt, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Cinderella, etc.But Jetboy are still on the road for touring and recorded the new album “Off Your Rocker!“ some time ago, never released in Europe. Now the fans there have the chance to get the album with a newly added track. Now that Jetboy is now longer being controlled by a major label they can do things their own way, and give their songs the punch and rocking attack they want."Off Your Rocker !" is straight-up hard rock. There is no studio trickery, instead the band sat down together and kicked the new three studio tracks on this album. This approach has given Jetboy a more honest sound — the production is still tight, yet doesn’t completely strip the rawness of the band from the recordings. Not only that, but the three new songs are some of Jetboy‘s best work. “Perfectly Wrong” shuffles along like classic Aerosmith, “Going Down (Above The Clouds)” delivers straight-up hard rock with a heavy beat and steady rhythm while the best song here, “Dogs Gotta Roam”, is a great slab of ’80s hair metal. The three live tracks sound great, especially their classic "Crank It Up" which performed by this current line-up feels fresh and kickin'. As bonus there's "Stolen People", a more modern oriented track still retaining Jetboy's trademark."Off Your Rocker !" showcases Jetboy recapturing their creative spark and here’s hoping this gives the band the kick they need to record a full-length album. If they are able to make an entire CD that sounds as good as the first three songs on this extended play CD we will all be in for a treat.

Line-Up:

Mickey Finn (vocals)
Billy Rowe (guitars)
Fernie Rod (guitars)
Charles Norman (bass)
Ron Tostenson (drums)

Michael Butler (bass on 1-3)
Doug Hovan (drums on 1-3)

01. Perfectly Wrong
02. Going Down (From Above The Clouds)
03. Dogs Gotta Roam
04. High Gear [Live]
05. Crank It Up [Live]
06. Losin’ Streak [Live]
07. Stolen People (Bonus Track)

Additionally, two songs from Feel the Shake, "Feel the Shake" and "Make Some Noise" were also featured in the 1989 movie She's Out of Control.

Album:

The debut album "Feel The Shake" by hard rockers JETBOY has just been 'Remastered & Reloaded' by Rock Candy Records, a really good but sadly overlooked LP appeared in year when the competition for this style - dominated by Guns N' Roses - was really hard.Imagine being a young rock fan caught up in all the late '80s Metal scene had to offer. You were looking for something different, something that wasn’t cookie-cutter or homogenized. While scanning the racks at your local record store you stumble upon an album from a brand new band that had a name taken from a New York Dolls song, a lead singer with a gigantic mohawk, a bass player snatched from Hanoi Rocks and an album title called "Feel The Shake".Lawd have mercy, I couldn’t pull my wallet out fast enough to purchase this LP the first time I saw it.The late '80s Hard Rock / Metal scene was centered in sunny Southern California but Jetboy emerged from San Francisco. This five strong squad was fronted by Mickey Finn and former Hanoi Rocks bassist Sammy Yaffa, and they debuted on record in 1988 with the release of "Feel The Shake".While there's some sleazy punky vibe all over the record (something similar to the early Guns N' Roses) the production of renowned Tom Allom (Def Leppard, Kix Rough Cutt) and the mix of Brian Foraker (Starship, Vixen) keep things very polished and melodic. The title track starts this album with a soft-spoken guitar intro before kicking into high gear with a sinister Yeeeaaaahh! I was screaming Hell Yeah! myself while cranking it on my home stereo. This was exciting, nothing like I had heard before. This was something original and fresh in a sea of posers. The guitars weren’t overly distorted nor were they shredding needlessly. All the instruments were just plain tight n' rockin'... and boy the rippin’ songs just never let up.'Make Some Noise' is another anthem that follows up the title track perfectly. I was 16 and lyrics say “Fuck the Neighbors, I Like it Loud”… with a statement like that how could this not become your new favorite album as teenager?I’ll point it out now that "Feel The Shake" has some of the best kick-ass rock n' roll guitar playing of any album ever put out during this era / genre. The twin guitar attack of Billy Rowe & Fernie Rod is infectious and will have you reaching for the volume knob to crank it up even higher. The sleazy underground vibe continues with 'Bad Disease' and 'Fire In My Heart'.What I feel is the coolest cut on the record is the backwoods blooze cruise of 'Home Town Blues'. Ron Tostenson’ drumming is meticulous and swingin' all at the same time with the addition of Mickey’s out of this world vocal stylings really drives the point home that this ain’t like no band you ever heard before.Bringing the tempo back up with the upbeat 'Locked in a Cage'. The record speeds full steam ahead with 'Talkin' (killer riff), 'Hard Climb' and 'Bloodstone', before blasting you into outer space with the ballsy album closer 'Snakebite'.Appeared few months after G N' R's debut, "Feel The Shake" is equally good and rocks in the same sleazy manner. Unfortunately, like all bands that were signed to MCA at the time (Femme Fatale, Pretty Boy Floyd, Blue Tears, etc) Jetboy was screwed over huge by the recording label. The lack of promotion and investment into this band was a total shame. Not only does this album have all the right stuff, the band had style & grace in spades. In the year of 1988, Jetboy should have became household names but instead are now the genre’s best kept secret and one of the most underrated bands to ever come out of the whole Californian scene. So this Rock Candy remaster is more than welcomed; punchy but not saturated, something this album needed as the original CD edition was really flat.

Line-Up:

Mickey Finn (vocals)

Album:

American sleazy rockers JETBOY will release their new album "Born To Fly" next January 25 via Frontiers Music, tomorrow to appear this "Born To Fly [Japan Edition +1]" with the obligatory bonus track.Jetboy disbanded when the musical climate changed in the early Nineties, but the group is back in full force and “Born To Fly” is their first proper album since 1990, so yeah, take that Grunge. And even better, “Born To Fly” adds to, rather than detracts from, their legacy.Primarily, you suspect, because unlike many of these reunions, three of these were the original Jetboy boys (and former Faster Pussycat Eric Stacy handles bass admirably) and like the old sporting saying, form is temporary, but class is permanent.Back in the day, Jetboy had more in common with AC/DC than they did with Poison. Jetboy were a band that liked the blues and Free more than Spandex and Warrant – and that’s very evident here too.“Beating The Odds” fair old screeches out of the blocks. When Mickey Finn sings “if you say we can’t do this, I’ll prove you wrong” in the chorus, you can’t help but sense a middle finger to everyone who dared write them off.Similarly, the title track has the same gritted teeth, the same acca-dacca strut, but the double guitar solo is pure Thin Lizzy and deserves bonus points.“Old Dog, New Tricks” though, is the best thing here by a mile. Absolutely filthy harmonica, and a chorus that anyone would give their right arm for, it’s the work of a band who knows exactly what they’re doing. Not that the rest of it is shabby. Far from it. “The Way That You Move Me” has the same feel as The Stones doing a ballad, and the soul-filled backing vocals elevate it to a different level.“Brokenhearted Daydream” on the other hand is a blue-collar thing that might be more readily associated with John Cougar Mellencamp, while “Inspiration From Desperation” is a stomping, stoic attack on the political classes in the US.There’s not really a low point in this album if you like this musical style. There’s a bass groove to “All Over Again” that you can’t resist, “She” is somewhere catchier than the flu, but a hell of a lot more fun (and like a lot of them, the lyrics have a root in odern life).“A Little Bit Easy” is actually more empowering than that title suggests too.“Every Time I Go” is another fine example of the light and shade here, a mighty fine mid-paced rocker it adds another side to the band, as does the absolutely funky blues of “Smoky Ebony”.Jetboy understand that this is only rock n roll. Lucky they like it. And they end things with a working class slice of it. “Party Time!” actually has a similar outlook to many of the characters in Springsteen’s “The River”, who work until quitting time on Friday and get ready to rock.“It’s all about the weekend” sings Finn. For him, and fellow original members Fernie Rod and Billy Rowe, you guess it always was, and always will be.“Born To Fly”? Nah. Born to Rock N' Roll is the motto of Jetboy.

Album:

Glam & Sleazy Rock veterans JETBOY inked a deal with Demon Doll Records to release a their first ever Greatest Hits compilation CD entitled “Now and Then”. Comprised of the band’s strongest material from 1986 to present, “Now and Then” gives fans a collection of remastered Jetboy tunes that will satisfy their every taste, including a previously unreleased track. As requested, here’s the currently no easy to find CD featuring 14 tracks which drips Glam, Blues, Sleazy and Punk that fans have come to expect from the legendary San Francisco bad boys. “Now and Then” pushes the envelope with remastered versions of their biggest hits, “Feel the Shake”, “Make Some Noise” and “Snakebite” from their 1988 Billboard Charting debut “Feel the Shake” as well as “Stomp It (Down To The Bricks), “Evil”, “Heavy Chevy” and “Bullfrog Pond” from their 1990 Sophomore Release “Damned Nation”.Jetboy’s distinctive sound will hearken you back to the late 80’s and early 90’s with the new whiskey soaked, groove oriented tracks “Going Down (Above the Clouds)”, “Perfectly Wrong” and “Dogs Gotta Roam” as well as cutting loose the brand new, never released ass kicker “Dying Inside”.Jetboy is one of those bands that seemed to always be on the cusp of breaking out. These guys had a huge following in their native San Francisco as well as a strong support base on the Sunset Strip back in the mid-80s, managed to get several songs on movie releases (five different tracks from the Feel The Shake album were spread out between Tom Hanks’ movie The Burbs, and the lesser-known Tony Danza flick, She’s Out Of Control), and scored a couple of decent video hits on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball. But between the death of original bass player Todd Crew (found dead in Slash’s hotel room…), and the grunge phenomenon of the early-to-mid-90s, Jetboy never managed to get the traction that was necessary for them to fully hit the big time.Too bad, as Jetboy was one of the more original sounding bands of the era,.Probably as well known for front man Mickey Finn’s sky-high mohawk as they were for most of their musical catalog, Jetboy combined the glammy edge of bands like Hanoi Rocks and the New York Dolls with the punk and sleazy look of a lot of the underground Hollywood bands. As such, their sound was a hybrid that always came off as fresh and original. On this collection, Demon Doll manages to capture the best of the band, for the most part, with seven tracks coming from the band’s two major label releases, 1988’s Feel The Shake and 1990’s Damned Nation. “Feel The Shake”, “Heavy Chevy”, and “Evil” are the band’s bigger songs, at least as far as airplay goes, and “Stomp It (Down To The Bricks)” and “Make Some Noise” are a couple of the band’s more popular songs with their fans.Personally, I was really happy to see “Snakebite” included here, as I think it’s one of the best songs in the band’s catalog. “Bullfrog Pond” was an interesting inclusion as well. What really makes the album is the inclusion of the hard-to-find EP Off Your Rocker studio tracks and the previously unreleased “Dying Inside”. All four of these songs are very much in the vein of the harder-edged material that made Jetboy popular with their fans… and maybe kept them off of radio… with Finn’s gritty vocals and the guitar tandem of Rowe and Rod still ripping things up.With no ballads to bog this collection down, ”Now And Then” is a full-tilt rock collection that I think casual fans will find a lot to like about and one that will give new listeners a solid cross-section of material to choose from.

Album:

By now, word has begun to spread about the triumphant return of one of the biggest underground bands of the now-legendary ’80s Sunset Strip glam metal scene, a band whose musical pedigree and historical importance is well known to music fans all over the world. That band is JETBOY, and in 2019, a reunited Jetboy led by founding guitarist Billy Rowe and vocalist Mickey Finn, released the band’s first album of the 21st century. Then just this year, the band started teasing audiences with a series of heavily stylized, supercharged cover tunes that included versions of Rainbow / Russ Ballard “Since You Been Gone,” Hall & Oates’ “Rich Girl”, and Gary Wright’s classic “Dream Weaver,” the latter of which was released coincidentally just days before Wright’s passing. Those singles seemingly pointed to a long gestating, much larger project that can now be finally revealed as Jetboy’s newest full-length recording. ”Crate Diggin’” once again unites Rowe & Finn along with guitarist Jimmie Romero, bassist Scott Richards and drummer Al Serrato for a full set of superb cover tunes, showcasing not only the band’s eclectic taste but also its immense gift for interpretation. The album even includes a guest appearance by another Jetboy alumnus, the great Sami Yaffa of New York Dolls / Hanoi Rocks fame!

Line-Up:

Billy Rowe – rhythm and slide guitar, backing vocals
Mickey Finn – vocals, harmonica, tambourine, keyboard, organ
Jimmie Romero – guitar
Scott Richards – bass
Al Serrato – drums

+ Sami Yaffa – guest vocals

Tracklist:

01. Since You Been Gone
02. Rich Girl
03. Before You Go
04. Dancing In The Moonlight
05. Bloody Well Right
06. Lido Shuffle
07. Thunder Island
08. Can’t You See
09. Funk 49
10. Fire And Rain
11. Cover Of The Rolling Stone
12. East Bound And Down
