ALSION from Heidenheim, Germany, play classical Heavy-/Power Metal. While other bands do crazy mixtures of "Blackdeathspeedpowerthrashgrunge with alternative influences" it's simply pure and rough stuff for all fans of traditional Metal.Of course the ALSION camp is open-minded to new and innovative things. But the music needs to be one thing: METAL! With cracking riffs, strong melodies and much fun. On and off stage!Since 2019 ALSION are no longer an active band. But there still might be news and even new material from time to time.

The most mysterious stories entwine around this formation: Is it true that guitarist and bandleader Ingo Kolb would love to join Stormwitch? Is drummer Tobias Schwenk really the biggest Maiden fan under the sun? And did front man Thomas Fischer actually do without a new leather couch to save a litter of Bosnian stray puppies? At least the last question can be answered clearly with “yes” and so you know what kind of crazy people you are dealing with here.More than 20 years have passed since ALSION (or Alfons, as they call themselves self-deprecatingly due to the illegible band logo) released their first longplayer “A Kingdom Beyond…” and actually they announced their stage farewell the year before last. But, as is well known, the unexpected often comes and so this year, “The Darkest Hour” is the fourth album by the Heidenheimers. The title probably fits perfectly with the current zeitgeist in the middle of a never-ending pandemic.However, we are by no means dealing with another swan song for humanity here. Rather, ALSION always convey a positive basic atmosphere, which is due on the one hand to their basic musical direction (typically Teutonic Power Metal) and on the other hand to the optimistic, life-affirming lyrics (example from the title track: “Even in the darkest hour you stood by side, helped me to stay on my way.Of course, the quintet is not reinventing the wheel and is based on genre models such as Brainstorm or Gravestone, but you can tell from every note how much passion the guys put into it. The same applies to the acoustic and optical design of this CD, which was mainly in the hands of Ingo.Tomorrow, on Thursday, April 22nd at 8 pm, the release show will take place on Rasenradio Leipzig and you can listen to “The Darkest Hour” in advance. In addition to typical up-tempo numbers such as Friendly Fire ’or‘ Dark Passenger ’, hopefully epic numbers such as ict Victims Of War’ or tern Eternal Sky ’will also be featured. Anyone who likes honest music played by established men should definitely check out ALSION.
